In line with the convention of the Mario Kart series, several tracks from past Mario Kart games will make a comeback in the forthcoming Mario Kart Universe. However, there’s a twist this time around. The game’s open-world design and additional features like wall riding and rail grinding mean that the returning tracks in this version will experience more significant alterations compared to those in previous iterations.
Still, numerous tunes are reminiscent of classic tracks from past games, and we plan to go through them all to pinpoint their originating titles. Soon, we’ll be uncovering more details about the upcoming game, so don’t forget to keep an eye out for the Mario Kart World Direct reveal!
Desert Hills – Mario Kart DS
In every Mario Kart game, there’s at least one desert-themed track, and the new Desert Hills track in this version seems to be drawing inspiration from the DS library. However, it’s not just a typical desert landscape; it appears to be more like an oasis due to its lush greenery, which is a departure from the arid, barren deserts of previous games. This isn’t the first time Desert Hills has been featured in the series; it also appeared in Mario Kart Wii.
Shy Guy Bazaar – Mario Kart 7
Tonight, you’re listening to an Arabian-themed track by MK7 called the Night Bazaar. Interestingly, instead of typical Arabian characters, here it’s inhabited by Shy Guys. This song wasn’t famous for having many shortcuts before, but we’ll see if World brings a change to that. It’s worth noting that this is the first time this track has been reintroduced in the series since its debut in MK7.
Wario Stadium – Mario Kart 64
At long last, Wario Stadium will shine brightly, as its initial absence from later games was overshadowed by the DS adaptation of this course. Interestingly, it was the only track from Mario Kart 64 that didn’t make an appearance in any subsequent game until World came into play. However, fear not, for the original version of this track is making a comeback – the last time we saw it was in Mario Kart 64 – and we’re confident it will not fail to impress!
Airship Fortress – Mario Kart DS
The Airship Fortress track was highly anticipated when the MK8 DLC was announced several years ago, but it wasn’t included at that time. However, now it’s back in World and it seems that some parts have been modified to make them more engaging. This is the third time this track has appeared in the series, with its last appearance being in MK7.
DK Pass – Mario Kart DS
In the global racing circuit, the MKDS track has been receiving much acclaim. With its winding, snow-covered mountain pathway providing a treacherous race on narrow lanes flanked by steep cliffs and tumbling snowballs that could potentially obliterate competitors, it’s no wonder why. This particular course has made an appearance thrice in the series thus far, with its most recent return being in MK7.
Sky-High Sundae – Mario Kart 8
Among the new tracks introduced in World, only one from Mario Kart 8 originates here. This track debuted during the second wave of DLC on Nintendo Switch and was also included in Mario Kart Tour at a later stage. Known for its thrilling chaos, this track features several challenging sections filled with jumps and drops that promise an exhilarating experience when played by all 24 racers.
Wario Shipyard – Mario Kart 7
As a gamer, I can’t help but be intrigued by Wario’s bizarre array of ventures, from a bustling stadium to a haunting shipyard. This upcoming track seems particularly aquatic, making good use of the latest World feature that allows us to glide on water instead of plunging into it. I sense some significant transformations coming our way in this one, as we’ve not seen this track since its initial debut in a Mario Kart game.
Koopa Troopa Beach – Mario Kart 64
It’s possible that the track from MK64 we’re discussing might be less memorable, so it wouldn’t shock us if it received a major revamp for World, particularly in terms of its visual appeal since it currently presents as quite an ordinary beachside setting. This is actually the third appearance of this track within the series, with its last outing being in MK7.
Peach Beach – Mario Kart Double Dash
Despite boasting an attractive setting from Mario Sunshine’s Isle Delfino, the track design is relatively basic and maintains a level terrain, which we anticipate will be improved upon by World’s version of the track. However, it’s pleasing to note that this track offers a representation of Double Dash. This marks the third appearance of Peach Beach in a Mario Kart game, with the last instance being in Mario Kart Wii.
Dino Dino Jungle – Mario Kart Double Dash
Dino Dino Jungle stands out as one of the intricate and enjoyable courses we’ve encountered, boasting a lively dinosaur-filled environment. We eagerly anticipate seeing how it translates on Switch 2, hoping it will incorporate elements similar to those found in recent Mario Kart games. Similar to many iconic tracks, Dino Dino Jungle has made a comeback in an MK game for the third time, with its last appearance being in MK7.
Moo Moo Meadows – Mario Kart Wii
This Wii track, reminiscent of a follow-up to Moo Moo Farm from MK64, promises a lively and crowded race with up to 24 competitors set in World. Despite its straightforward design, the track features narrow lanes bordered by grass and areas filled with potential obstacles for collisions. It seems I’m repeating myself, as this track has already been featured in three different Mario Kart games, appearing most recently in the main game of Mario Kart 8.
Choco Mountain – Mario Kart 64
Among all tracks shown in World so far, Choco Mountain stands out uniquely, but it’s certain to retain the dangerous and hilly atmosphere of its original version. Although its design appears straightforward, there are plenty of risks to navigate, and the towering canyon walls will provide thrilling wall-riding experiences. This is the fourth appearance of Choco Mountain in a Mario Kart game; it was initially featured in MKDS and MK8 as downloadable content.
Toad’s Factory – Mario Kart Wii
In the additional content for MK8, a track that left many fans dissatisfied was not included. However, Toad’s Factory is returning to the scene in World and we can only hope it surpasses its previous glory. Its distinctive square design offered an intriguing layout, further enhanced by the assortment of entertaining perils you might stumble upon. This is the first time that Toad’s Factory has been revived in a Mario Kart game since its initial debut.
