Following years of anticipation, the long-awaited Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled last month, accompanied by a sneak peek at an upcoming Mario Kart game. While the trailer was brief, here are some facts we can confirm: The Switch 2 is set for release before the end of 2025, a detailed Nintendo Direct presentation will take place on April 2 to provide additional details, and it will be capable of playing games from previous versions (backward compatibility).
After the announcement, numerous developers have declared upcoming games for the new console, although there are whispers circulating, let’s concentrate on the confirmed (and highly probable given the evidence) Nintendo Switch titles we are aware of thus far. Many are from independent developers and already demonstrate the wide variety of games the Switch 2 is expected to offer.
A New Mario Kart Franchise Installment
The debut trailer for the Switch 2 hinted at what seems to be a fresh installment in the Mario Kart series. Based on the sneak peek, the track appears to be named Mario Bros. Circuit, potentially a new custom-built layout featuring 24 starting spots. Characters like Donkey Kong, who’s had a minor facelift, can be seen as racers in this game. Additional aspects gleaned from the footage include a Yoshi-themed drive-through restaurant and other intriguing details. Given that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was launched shortly after the initial Switch release, fans are hoping for this new version to be available when the Switch 2 becomes available in stores.
Untitled Generation 10 Pokémon Game
It’s important to note that this information hasn’t been officially verified yet. However, if reports are true, the company behind Pokémon, Game Freak, suffered a data breach in October 2024. The leak allegedly disclosed various project codenames, one of which hinted at the development of a new generation of Pokémon for the Switch 2, tentatively named as either “10th Generation” or “Generation X”. Nintendo Everything claims that this game will reportedly have two distinct versions, similar to previous releases in the franchise. As we approach the rumored release date for the Switch 2, more details might surface.
My Time at Evershine
Indie studio Pathea Games, creators of ‘My Time at Portia’ and ‘My Time at Sandrock’, have announced that their upcoming cozy simulation RPG, ‘My Time at Evershine’, will also launch on the Switch 2, along with PC and other gaming platforms. At present, details about the game are scarce, but for all available information, check out their Kickstarter page.
Bestiario
Bestiario, serendipitously, is another RPG game being crowdfunded on Kickstarter, hailing from an independent studio. Bestiario combines turn-based strategy with social simulation aspects, reminiscent of the Persona series. The game’s setting and narrative are significantly influenced by Spanish folklore and mythology, which aligns perfectly with Wiggin Industries, a studio based in Barcelona, being the developer. For the latest updates, head over to their Kickstarter page.
Synth Beats
The game titled “Synth Beats” is an action RPG developed by Swiss studio Radhood, slated for release on the Switch 2 and other platforms. As per the developer, players will take on the role of capturing monsters to combat the scientists responsible for their creation. They’ll also sail across the open sea in a boat belonging to their captors, targeting and destroying their flawed experimental creatures to halt the production of the Synth Beasts. Over 40 unique Synth Beasts can be caught by players, with the game expected to launch on Steam soon.
Littlelands
Rafael Martín together with Kyle Creamer created this charming game, employing an art style reminiscent of Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening‘s chibi design. Players are free to progress at their leisure. As described on the Steam page, it offers activities such as cultivating berries, treasure hunting, fishing, and even relaxing moments like enjoying a sunset while seated on a wooden bench.
Yooka-Replaylee
The video game “Yooka-Replayee” is essentially a reimagining of the 2017 title, “Yooka-Laylee,” which the creators, Playtonic Games, refer to as the spiritual successor to the classic game, “Banjo-Kazooie.” In a playful move, they hinted at a potential release on the Nintendo system, although it’s not confirmed if this refers to the Switch or a future model.
However, there’s some puzzlement because the sequel to “Yooka-Laylee,” titled “Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair,” received more positive reviews than its predecessor. Yet, they’ve opted to remake the original game instead of its successful follow-up.
We will continue to update and revise this list as more announcements arise…
