Every Confirmed MCU Character/Actor returning for AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY

Avengers: Doomsday“, the fifth Marvel Studios’ Avengers movie, initiating a two-part sequence leading up to Secret Wars, will commence filming in spring for a May 2026 premiere. If you were amazed by the multitude of heroes in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, then brace yourself, as more characters are set to reappear in Doomsday. So far, several renowned cast members from the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been confirmed for the film. Here’s who we know will be returning:

Robert Downey Jr.

At Comic-Con 2024, Marvel Studios revealed some exciting news: Robert Downey Jr. will rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but this time not as Tony Stark/Iron Man, instead portraying Dr. Victor Von Doom. It’s likely he’ll be a variation of Tony, and we can expect him to star prominently in “Doomsday.” Additionally, it seems probable that he will also appear in “Secret Wars.

Chris Evans

In the sequel to the Avengers’ “Core Four,” it’s highly likely that the character, who was previously Captain America, will not reprise his role as Steve Rogers. Instead, we might see a different version of him, potentially from an alternate universe or even portraying a villain like Hydra Cap or Nomad. With the multiverse in play, the potential storylines are vast and intriguing.

Anthony Mackie

In the movie “Doomsday. The Avengers,” it’s Sam Wilson who takes up the shield instead of Chris Evans’ character. The Avengers require a strong leader for battles, and at this moment, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson is the one fulfilling the role of our guardian of freedom, or Sentinel of Liberty.

Sebastian Stan

I’m thrilled to share that Chris Evans, whom I admire as Captain America, will indeed be gracing our screens again! And guess who else is joining him? None other than Sebastian Stan, my favorite Bucky Barnes a.k.a. the Winter Soldier! After his time with the Thunderbolts, he’s back! Now, let’s talk about the stellar cast of this upcoming project… the Thunderbolts!

Thunderbolts* (Some of the Cast)

At Comic-Con, Marvel Studios revealed that many key actors from the Thunderbolts team will reprise their roles in the upcoming film, Doomsday. Since this version of the Suicide Squad may not survive, we won’t name all the main cast here. However, we anticipate that the characters who do make it will feature in Doomsday. They might even emerge as the New Avengers! Feel free to speculate on which characters those could be.

Tom Holland

A report from The Hollywood Reporter has officially announced that Tom Holland will portray Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Avengers: Doomsday, somewhere within his schedule for Chris Nolan’s upcoming movie and Spider-Man 4. We’re eagerly anticipating how Tom Holland will respond when the antagonist resembles his mentor, Mr. Stark.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Principal Cast

At Comic-Con 2024, Kevin Feige officially announced that the main actors of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, are set to appear in not one but two upcoming Avengers films, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Given Reed Richards’ well-known adversarial bond with Doctor Doom from the comics, it’s quite exciting (playing on the word ‘fantastic’) that they’ll all be part of this journey together.

Benedict Cumberbatch

Previously, we spotted the multi-talented British actor enchanting us as the ex-Sorcerer Supreme in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” released in 2022. He’s revealed in an interview that he’ll reprise his role as Doctor Strange for “Avengers: Doomsday.” Since filming for this takes place before any potential “Doctor Strange 3,” it looks like the cliffhanger ending from the second movie will be addressed in “Doomsday.” Or perhaps not, given past surprises.

Hayley Atwell

Confirmation was made that Hayley Atwell will reprise her role as Peggy Carter, whom she initially played in the 2011 film “Captain America: The First Avenger,” and subsequently in the two-season television series “Agent Carter.” It is speculated that this version of Peggy may come from a different universe and might possess abilities similar to her character in the animated series “What If…?

Charlie Cox

The actor from “Daredevil: Born Again” recently shared his plans to get into shape for filming “Avengers” this summer. Despite the Man Without Fear not being an Avenger in either the Marvel Cinematic Universe or the comics, it appears he’ll be donning armor for “Doomsday”.

Which Other MCU Stars Might Return for Doomsday?

It’s quite possible that these characters are merely a few of many returning in the upcoming “Doomsday” saga. Our guess is that Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye. Despite Natasha Romanoff’s death in “Endgame”, given that this is the Multiverse Saga, we anticipate a Black Widow counterpart to join the original six Avengers. However, it’s important to note that none of these appearances have been officially confirmed yet.

anticipated characters from the Marvel Cinatic Universe who might show up include Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, given her role in “The Marvels” and potential connection to “Doomsday”. Monica Rambeau being lost in a parallel reality could suggest she’ll play a part in “Doomsday”. Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) from “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” may have returned on Earth, raising the possibility that he might become an Avenger. Characters like Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), and Shuri (Letitia Wright) are less certain for “Doomsday”, but could appear in “Secret Wars”. Given the significant role of the Multiverse in “Deadpool & Wolverine”, it’s likely that these two characters will make an appearance as well. Overall, the movie looks set to be packed with familiar faces.
