As a lifestyle expert reflecting on the journey of Sarah Drew, I find her story both inspiring and disheartening at the same time. It is inspiring to see how she has persevered despite facing harsh criticism from an early age, even before the rise of social media. Her dedication to her craft and her unwavering determination are truly commendable.
Sarah Drew was performing in shows long before social media became popular. Yet, during that period, she still faced severe criticisms.
Lately, during an interview on the Broad Ideas podcast with hosts Rachel Bilson and Olivia Allen, the actress disclosed that Everwood was her debut television series. She further mentioned that even though social media wasn’t around at the time, she found herself captivated by reading messages posted on online forums and discussion boards instead.
Actress from Mom’s Night Out shared that delving into those online message boards proved to be quite a distressing ordeal for her instead.
Looking back on my journey that began with Everwood in 2002, I can’t help but reflect on the role that solidified my career – the unassuming best friend of Emily VanCamp. With glasses, wild hair, and a makeup-free face, I was the wallflower, the one who stood out for all the wrong reasons initially, the ‘ugly duckling.’ But as time went by, I embraced this unique character and the lessons she taught me about strength, resilience, and the beauty that lies within.
During reminiscence, the actress from the Front of the Class series recalls numerous kind compliments about her acting and praises for her performance. However, certain unfavorable remarks have left an indelible impression on her memory – ones that she can recall verbatim.
One of the especially harsh statements called her “so unattractive that a TV supposedly shatters whenever she stands before it.” Drew confessed that such insults still have a profound impact on her emotions.
Later on, the actress disclosed insights into her childhood experiences, revealing that her mom was a researcher by profession. She pointed out that matters concerning style, such as makeup and hair styling, weren’t considered important in their household during her formative years.
Subsequently, she felt wistful and reminisced about the consistent academic success she’d enjoyed over the years, coupled with her unwavering pursuit of acting. Whenever a chance presented itself, she was determined to make it count for something more.
However, she added that she never considered “whether I was one of the pretty people.”
The actress from Reindeer Games: Homecoming admitted that upon discovering past harsh remarks, she found herself doubting her own beauty, pondering if perhaps she was unattractive. She deemed these comments extremely harmful.
Sarah Drew then played Dr. April Kepner on Grey’s Anatomy.
