Evangeline Lilly recently revealed details about a health issue she’s been dealing with after an accident she had in Hawaii earlier in 2024.
Evangeline Lilly, the actress from Lost and Ant-Man and the Wasp, suffered a head injury after fainting and hitting a rock on a beach last May. She shared the news on Instagram on January 1st, explaining she had sustained a traumatic brain injury.
Lilly shared that it was late on January 1st, 2026, the first day of the new year, and she was starting the year of the horse with some unfortunate news about a concussion she sustained.
She shared that brain scans revealed significant decreased activity throughout her brain. She’s now focused on working with doctors to understand the cause and commit to recovery. She acknowledged it will be challenging, saying, “I need to figure out what’s going on with the help of doctors, and then work to fix it – which won’t be easy, since it feels like all I do is work hard. But I’m prepared to do what it takes.”
Lilly shared that the accident actually caused her to take things slower. She explained that dealing with the effects of her injuries has allowed her to relax and enjoy a more peaceful end to 2025. She added that she had the most calm and restful Christmas holidays she’s experienced in years, and finished by expressing her gratitude.
I’m incredibly thankful and lucky to get another day, and another year, to experience this amazing planet. That’s a quick update on my concussion. Thanks to everyone for your support.

In May, the actress first shared details of the incident in a post on Substack. She explained that she had fainted and fallen forward, hitting her face on a boulder. She recounted her experience at the hospital, saying the medical staff were more focused on figuring out why she had passed out than on treating her facial injury. She remembered telling them with a dizzy voice, ‘You won’t find anything,’ because she knew there wasn’t a medical explanation for the fainting spell.
Lilly has been fainting since she was a child, but doctors haven’t been able to find a reason why. She describes these episodes as her body’s way of shutting down when she feels overwhelmed. She explains that she feels like a part of her—her ‘soul’—temporarily disconnects when she can’t handle things anymore, almost as if it’s leaving her body. She jokingly refers to her body as a ‘meat suit’ when describing this feeling.
Lilly recently shared what it’s like to navigate a brain injury while working in Hollywood. She was open about her recovery process and emphasized the importance of prioritizing health and taking things slower, which is a valuable message for everyone.
