As a lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I find Eva Longoria‘s decision to relocate her family out of the United States and split her time between Mexico and Spain a bold yet thoughtful move. Having spent the majority of her adult life in the US, she sensed a shift during the lockdown that ultimately led her to depart from the country she once called home.
Eva Longoria explained her reason for relocating her family from the U.S. and now divides her time between Mexico and Spain. She recently disclosed that she and her family chose to leave the United States, which she described as ‘dystopian’.
In an interview with Marie Claire, Longoria shared that despite living most of her adult years in the U.S., she noticed a shift in the country’s mood during the lockdown period. For Longoria, COVID-19 served as a turning point, exacerbated by visible poverty on the streets and excessive taxes, which led her to contemplate a new chapter in her life.
She expressed, “The atmosphere felt distinct. Then came the outbreak of COVID-19, which tipped the balance for me. Regarding the homelessness or the taxes, I don’t mean to criticize California, but it seems that this phase of my life has concluded now.
The actor from John Wick explained that Donald Trump’s election, along with other political events, served as a catalyst for her departure. For Eva Longoria, it functioned like a stepping-stone, revealing to her the possibility of a ‘criminal with such divisive language’ reaching such high office. This concerned her greatly about the direction in which the country was moving.
2016 was a year she pondered over deeply, as Trump’s victory in the U.S. election left her feeling overwhelmed with despair. She expressed her sentiments by saying, “The idea that someone who has been convicted of crimes and spreads so much hatred could be President is terrifying. If he keeps his promises, it will make for a very unsettling environment. I’ve never felt depressed before, but it was as if I wondered, ‘Does my vote truly have an impact? Am I actually making a difference?’
Eva Longoria, from Desperate Housewives, expressed that she shares the ability to change her circumstances as a privilege, while many others are not afforded such an opportunity to move to a safer environment. She further stated, “I can leave and go elsewhere. Most Americans aren’t so fortunate. They will be trapped in this distressing nation, and my worry and sorrow is for them.
At the moment, Eva Longoria resides between Mexico and Spain alongside her husband, José Bastón, and their 6-year-old child, Santiago. Frequently found jetting across Europe and South America due to professional commitments, she spends less time returning to California.
