The game titled “Atomfall,” created by Rebellion, was recently launched in March 2025. In this game, players traverse the ruined landscape of Britain after a nuclear disaster, scavenging for resources. Despite its recent release, “Atomfall” has already gained popularity with over two million players, sparking talks about a potential sequel to this successful first-person survival game.

Jason Kingsley, the co-founder and CEO of Rebellion, recently appeared on The Game Business Show to discuss the achievement of Atomfall in more depth. Since Atomfall is a fresh intellectual property within the independent gaming industry, success wasn’t a given, as it often involves greater risk due to audiences typically being hesitant to try out new IPs they’ve never encountered before. However, the success of Atomfall has already sparked discussions for a potential sequel at an early stage. So what could be the reasons behind this game’s success that merits such talks for a follow-up?

A significant factor contributing to the initial triumph of an indie game like “Atomfall” in the gaming industry is its inclusion in Xbox Game Pass. Although Xbox Game Pass can sometimes pose a dilemma for Xbox users, it played a pivotal role in boosting the community and hype surrounding “Atomfall” at launch. This increased exposure facilitated by Microsoft’s promotional efforts for “Atomfall” enabled its success on Game Pass.

Kingsley commented, “Many players are predominantly found in an area where they can easily test out new games. This means less risk for audiences to explore various games… I believe Game Pass has been successful primarily because it provided extensive exposure for new brands or concepts, and I must add that the support Microsoft gave us was exceptional.

For Rebellion, the next phase involves further growth and expansion of games within their studio, all while managing the extraordinary success of Atomfall. The initial triumph of Atomfall won’t halt its post-launch development, as Downloadable Content (DLC) is still on the horizon. It appears that discussions for sequels or potential spin-offs in the Atomfall universe are already underway.

Regarding our plans for Atomfall, here’s an update: We’re working on additional content in the form of Downloadable Content (DLC),” Kingsley explained. “As for the future, we’re discussing possibilities such as sequels or spin-offs.

If you’re interested in playing “Atomfall,” you can find it on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms. Moreover, it is included in Game Pass. Rest assured that the creators, Rebellion, are dedicated to enhancing the game post-release by providing further updates and downloadable content, ensuring the game remains engaging for players.
