The latest analysis reveals that the earnings from the “Thunderbolts” movie are dwindling, with predictions suggesting it won’t surpass $400 million globally. This marks another setback for Kevin Feige, following a series of disappointing releases since “Endgame”.

Unfortunately, “Captain America: Brave New World” and “The Marvels” both fell short of expectations in the box office recently. Interestingly, even the highly anticipated “Quantumania” failed to meet Marvel’s grand expectations, leading to a significant restructuring of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Coming up next is “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” but it’s not shaping up positively. Fans appear unenthused, categorizing it alongside the previously mentioned flops. Could this be why Feige has delayed “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Secret Wars ” so far from FF? Furthermore, the ongoing controversy surrounding Pedro Pascal doesn’t help. His contentious online behavior and political views could potentially spell disaster for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

What is said about the Thunderbolts box office?

Needed help internationally

In my latest box office analyses, I’ve shown greater optimism towards the earnings of Thunderbolts due to its superior performance compared to Captain America: Brave New World.

Thunderbolts is currently doing about 50% better than Captain 4 in daily screenings. Yet, I also mentioned that it would require support from international ticket sales. Interestingly, it seems that foreign audiences aren’t particularly drawn to the supposed New Avengers.

Foreign box office terminated

We gather information on foreign box office performances through Luiz Fernando, who consistently keeps us updated with reports and box office figures regarding X.

Luiz mentions that the global earnings for the Thunderbolts movie have been “shut down” due to intense competition from films such as Lilo & Stitch, Mission Impossible, Final Destination: Bloodlines, and Sinners.

Luiz mentions that “Thunderbolts” is seeing a roughly 40% decrease in its international performance compared to “Captain America 4” during its fourth weekend abroad.

Due to a disappointing foreign box office for “Thunderbolts,” it no longer seems likely that the film will gross over $400 million. On the other hand, the new Avengers movie is aiming for a worldwide total between $380 million and $390 million.

Cap 4 finished with $214.6M internationally, while Thunderbolts is presently at $181.7M.

Won’t hit break-even number

As a movie critic, I must confess, the anticipated blockbuster Thunderbolts seems to have a hefty production budget of approximately $180 million, with additional marketing expenses factored in. The break-even point rumored is an impressive $450 million. If the box office earnings for this film were to reach around $390 million, it would unfortunately mean a loss of at least $60 million for Disney.

It seems to me that the breakeven point might be higher than initially thought, so if that’s accurate, then Disney’s financial loss from the rebranding flop of the New Avengers would be even more substantial. Notably, Disney itself admitted in an investor report that the film “Captain America: Brave New World” underperformed with a worldwide gross of $415.1 million.

Doomsday for Thunderbolts

Given the superior performance of “Thunderbolts” over “Captain 4” on daily box office returns, my revised prediction places “Thunderbolts” with a potential best worldwide earnings of approximately $430 million. To reach the break-even point of $450 million (in its fourth weekend domestically), “Thunderbolts” would require an unlikely surge, as it currently stands at $9.164M, while “Captain 4” earned $8.3M.

I mentioned that achieving the $430 million target and maintaining a growth rate over Cap 4 by more than 50% as we’ve seen so far would require global assistance. However, if Luiz’s calculations are accurate, it might also signal the end for Thunderbolts.

Worth noting is that if Thunderbolts did manage to hit $430M, it’s still a bust.

Will Feige and Marvel ever learn?

The film isn’t horrendous by any stretch, but it had potential for greater quality. Adding more scenes featuring The Sentry and Winter Soldier would have been beneficial. Furthermore, focusing entirely on Florence Pugh and Yelena seemed like an oversight. One might think they’d remember the lessons from the significant flop of The Marvels and the backlash M She U faced on Disney+?
