The latest season of “Star Wars” series “Andor,” specifically its three-episode debut, has returned to the Nielsen rankings, and surprisingly, it outperformed the premiere episode of Season 1.
After the premiere of “The Acolyte,” no episodes from “Skeleton Crew” appeared on the Nielsen ratings, meaning that Star Wars was absent from these rankings following its release.
In contrast, Andor Season 2 has climbed the rankings, finding a spot not only on the Nielsen “Original” list but also the “Overall” one. This suggests that positive word-of-mouth from the excellent first season of Andor is likely responsible for its success. Although Season 1 began gradually, if you stick with it until the end, it proves to be quite engaging.
What are the ratings?
In its initial release, the opening three episodes of Season 2 for the series “Andor” rank fourth among originals and tenth overall on Nielsen’s charts. They collectively amass a total view time of approximately 721 million minutes.
That manages to beat the Season 1 three-episode premiere of 624.
In my critique, I’d rephrase that statement like this: “If Disney had released just two more episodes, given their current pace, they would have comfortably topped the ‘Original’ list with a total running time of approximately 480 minutes.
It’s likely that the remaining episodes of “Andor” Season 2 will rank highly, given that Disney plans to release them in three-episode blocks every week.
Fans send Disney the message
To put it simply, I must admit that I wasn’t fond of the initial three episodes in Season 2 of Andor. In fact, I haven’t completed the series yet. It makes me wonder if others might feel the same way. We’ll see next week when Nielsen reveals the viewership data for the following three episodes. Interestingly enough, I’ve heard that the rest of the season improves, so I plan to return to it eventually.
The resurgence of “Andor” on Nielsen charts serves as a telling indication for Disney – create high-quality content that viewers appreciate, and you’ll see increased viewership, driven in part by positive word-of-mouth. Here’s to hoping the decision-makers take notice.
Now let’s apply that to Marvel on Disney+, too.
