As a nostalgic cinephile, I can’t help but reminisce about the simpler times when vending machines were a source of delightful surprises for kids like us. Summers on boardwalks and visits to Chuck E. Cheese bring back those memories vividly. Now, LEGO is adding fuel to our nostalgia with their new 1,343-piece LEGO Retro Vending Machine set. This set allows builders like us to construct a functional mechanical vending machine that dispenses mystery capsules! Each capsule hides one of 16 retro-themed minifigures, making it a fun collectible pursuit. Here are the first images of this exciting new LEGO Vending Machine set:

This latest collection of mini-figures pays tribute to several timeless LEGO themes, such as the famous astronauts and Fabuland characters. Notably, pirates from yesteryear are also included in this assortment. The most intriguing aspect of this set? It’s the designer of the original idea for the product on ideas.LEGO.com, who is now a mini-figure himself! Here’s what that creative mind, Rob Vangansewinkel from Belgium, had to say about his design becoming an official addition to the collection:
Growing up, I was fortunate enough to have a real vending machine at home which I adored. This sparked an idea for me – designing a functioning LEGO brick version that dispenses mini-figures. The concept seemed to naturally fall into place. I began by creating a digital model of the design and shared it on LEGO Ideas, yet I was uncertain if the dispensing mechanism would truly function as intended. To confirm this, I invested approximately two months in meticulously testing and improving the design using actual LEGO bricks. Intrigued by how my old vending machine worked, I dismantled it to grasp its mechanics and adapt them for my creation. I am immensely proud of the final product.
Starting from June 1, 2025, LEGO Insiders get early access to the LEGO Ideas Minifigure Vending Machine kit. Everyone else can purchase it from June 6 onwards, either through LEGO.com or at LEGO stores. The price is $179.99.
