Soldier Boy is due to reappear, martial law rules America, and it seems that the country is in the hands of malevolent supers. It’s also rumored that Ashley might be a terrifying creature on the loose. This ominous setup promises an exhilarating fifth and final season for the series. Notably, showrunner Eric Kripke hints that Homelander will share a significant father-son journey with Soldier Boy in The Boys season five.
In the third season, it’s known that Homelander is Soldier Boy’s biological son, but Soldier Boy doesn’t embrace the role of a father figure for Homelander. Instead, after Homelander saves Ryan from Soldier Boy’s anger, he’s placed in cryosleep. At the end of season four, we see Homelander gazing at his dad. It’s clear that Soldier Boy won’t have a warm reunion when he awakens again.
In a conversation with Antony, Kripke shared an observation about Homelander: it’s somewhat tragic, yet he yearns for affection above all else. He gathers immense power in hope that someone will reciprocate his feelings, but people are afraid of him because of his power. This dynamic seems to apply to Soldier Boy as well.
He went on to discuss Homelander’s longing for a paternal hug. “[Homelander] yearns for a father who can love him and be proud of him,” he explained. “Although I won’t give away any spoilers from season five, let me say that the discovery in season three that Soldier Boy was his father came quite late. As a result, we didn’t get to explore their relationship much. However, in season five, we delve into this complex father-son dynamic between these two characters, and it offers a wealth of emotional depth. These actors have truly shined during the filming, and I’ve enjoyed watching their performances in the daily takes.
Kripke shares that production for The Boys’ fifth season is approximately halfway completed, implying potential new episodes in 2026. Given Gen V’s planned comeback this year, this timeline seems plausible. We eagerly anticipate the conclusion of this thrilling journey, no matter when it arrives.
