As a long-time fan and admirer of Eric Kripke‘s brilliant work, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions upon reading his heartfelt reflection on the conclusion of the Supernatural universe. The show has been an integral part of my pop culture journey for over fifteen years, and its impact on me, as well as millions of other fans, is immeasurable.
As a devoted gamer, I can’t help but admit my admiration for Supernatural. This fantastical television series has earned its place among the greatest of all time and rightfully holds the title of a cult classic within the genre community. Frankly, Kripke’s masterpiece achieved something few other shows managed – an unparalleled level of quality that continues to captivate viewers.
Undeniably, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, who brought Sam and Dean Winchester to life on screen, deserve a lot of recognition for the show’s success. However, it is important to acknowledge that without the creative vision of showrunner Erick Kripke and the hard work of the team behind the scenes, the characters of Sam and Dean would not have been developed as they were.
It’s likely you’re aware that the series “Supernatural” concluded in 2020, and subsequently, a spin-off called “The Winchesters” was released with 13 episodes. Although there have been discussions about a possible limited series revival, which we’ve mentioned before too, creator Eric Kripke has expressed that he views the “Supernatural” universe as complete.
During an interview with deadline amidst the SAG-AFTRA strike in 2023, Eric Kripke disclosed some intriguing information, one of which was his connection to the Supernatural universe. This was his initial significant endeavor and it was under his guidance that it saw a fitting conclusion after over a decade on television. Here’s what he shared:
TIME LIMIT: Now that The Winchesters series has concluded, the current state of the franchise is at an end. Have you given it some thought? What are your feelings about this development?
KRIPKE: It was peculiar because no matter the twists and turns in my career, I always had a safety net – ‘If I were to really fail miserably, I’ve still got residuals from Supernatural, and I continue to earn royalties as they keep producing it’ – the same applied to The Winchesters. Even when everything was over, a thought struck me, ‘Oh no, I need to be extra careful now. I don’t have this safety net anymore.’ My wildest aspiration was to last five years on that show. I could never have foreseen this and its impact. I am utterly humbled by the whole scenario and astounded, proud, but in all honesty, I never dreamed that the show would run for 15 years and connect with so many people. I’m at a loss for words when I think about it. It leaves me speechless.

There’s chatter about a possible revival of a limited series, though no definitive information has been shared on the matter. Eric Kripke’s comments reflect his current stance, and it remains uncertain if he will revisit this world again in the future; however, we genuinely hope that he does!
