Episode 7 Proves Why ‘Dandadan’ Is One of the Best Anime that You Absolutely Have to See

As a seasoned manga enthusiast and anime aficionado with over two decades under my belt, I can confidently say that Dandadan is one of the most captivating and well-crafted series to emerge from Japan’s vibrant shounen landscape in recent memory. Having had the privilege of following the genre’s evolution since its inception, I’ve seen it all – the highs and the lows, the classics and the flops, the groundbreaking masterpieces, and the forgettable duds. Yet, Dandadan stands tall among the best, a testament to Yukinobu Tatsu’s unyielding dedication to his craft and Science Saru’s masterful adaptation.

The manga titled “Dandadan” by author Yukinobu Tatsu was initially published on April 6, 2021. This ongoing series currently boasts 17 volumes and has become one of the most successful shounen titles in both Japan and globally. After numerous unsuccessful endeavors, Tatsu finally struck a chord with both readers and industry insiders, positioning himself to leave an indelible mark on the world of manga.

The animated version of the manga officially began on October 4, 2024. Prior to this, a special film titled “Dan Da Dan: First Encounter” was screened, airing before the anime’s debut. This series has been incredibly popular, and rightfully so.

In the latest episode of the anime titled “To a Kinder World,” which is Episode 7, there’s been a lot of positive buzz since its debut. Without a doubt, it’s an exceptional episode that demonstrates why Dandadan is so outstanding and why it’s poised to be one of the standout shows this season.

Unlike shows like “Heavenly Delusion” and “Frieren,” which weren’t widely recognized but gained popularity following their anime adaptations, the series “Dandadan” was already well-known and popular among fans prior to Science Saru’s excellent adaptation.

It wasn’t “Bleach” or “One Piece,” but it was a familiar series and an anime adaptation that the enthusiasts had looked forward to for quite some time.

Although the manga’s content occasionally veers into mature themes (due to its graphic violence and suggestive scenes), Science Saru has been impressively adapting the series. The animation is exceptional, as they skillfully translate Tatsu’s artwork into fluid, captivating movements, making the anime a fan favorite.

Beyond just the high-quality presentation, it’s also the plot and the characters that make this stand out. Characters like Momo and Okarun, who despite being stereotypes, beautifully demonstrate depth and complexity, proving that there’s always more to them than meets the eye.

Additionally, you’ll find an array of engaging supporting characters alongside the main ones. In the upcoming section of this narrative, we will delve into one such character: Aira Shiratori, who was featured in Episode 7.

In a nutshell, Turbo Baba swiped Okarun’s cherished artifacts, transforming them into two radiant spheres. One of these golden orbs later came into possession of Aira, who is the popular student idol at their school.

In this story, I find myself awakened to my psychic abilities and burdened with the responsibility of saving our world, for I am said to be the most stunning among us all. My mission takes a turn as I set my sights on Momo, yet find myself under the scrutiny of an enigmatic figure in a fiery red gown – Acrobatic Silky. She claims to be my mother, but with a chilling twist: she desires to consume me. Amidst this struggle, I must also conquer Okarun and Momo who seek to hinder my progress. It’s quite the adventure!

In Episode 7, during the second half of the two-part tale, the tide shifts as Okarun and Momo successfully vanquish Acrobatic Silky. However, their victory comes with a heavy revelation – Aira has perished.

Tubo Baba clarifies that if a person gets consumed by a spirit, they will inevitably perish, and there’s nothing one can do to prevent it. That’s when Acrobatic Silky steps in with an offer to use her aura to rescue Aira. What follows is a surprising revelation: Acrobatic Silky turns out to be none other than Aira’s mother, a single parent who struggled financially while working at a store and resorted to prostitution on the side, all to provide Aira with as normal a life as possible.

The love is there, the emotions are palpable, and the animators did an amazing job in adapting this dark storyline that concludes with people beating up Aira’s mother and taking the baby away from her, as she dies in the streets. Later, she continues to wander the world of the living and after Aira once notices her spirit, she turns into Acrobatic Silky, wanting to get her daughter back.

In comparison, the comic book adaptation (manga) had a greater level of detail and maturity compared to its animated counterpart (anime). Yet, the somber tone pervading the narrative was equally present in both adaptations, which is why Episode 7 stands out as one of the most impressive anime episodes of the year.

Dandadan is performing exceptionally well, and I must commend them for successfully transforming a complex, dark narrative into one that’s accessible to people of all ages. This versatility is truly something worth celebrating, and it leaves us eagerly anticipating future projects!
