This week, the Epic Games Store is offering a free game: Nightingale. PC gamers can now add this open-world survival game to their libraries. It’s currently available in early access and launched in 2024.
Gamers using the Epic Games Store have only one week left to get this game for free. The offer ends on October 9th, after which two new free games will be released.
Nightingale was created and released by Inflexion Games. While the game has gained a following, player reviews are somewhat varied. It’s currently available on Steam for $29.99 and has garnered nearly 10,000 reviews.
Generally, 71% of reviews are positive, resulting in a “Mostly Positive” rating. However, more recent reviews show a decline to 64%, now considered “Mixed.” A number of players have voiced concerns about updates and performance, which isn’t unusual for games in early access that use Unreal Engine 5. These issues are typical for games still under development.
The game is set in a fantasy world inspired by Victorian-era gaslamp aesthetics, combining the challenges of survival with some role-playing features. You play as travelers who can move between dimensions, and your goal is to stay alive and find your way back to Nightingale – a settlement for humans created in the Faewilds before a catastrophic event called the Pale.
Okay, so in this game, you’ve got to keep yourself alive – that means making sure you’re fed and getting enough rest. You’ll spend a lot of time collecting stuff – resources, you know? – and then using those to craft tools and gear. I found that bedrolls are super helpful for getting your stamina back after a long day, and umbrellas? They actually let you glide around the world, which is a game-changer!
The game features both close-quarters fighting and gunplay, and you’ll come across a variety of creatures, some friendly and some dangerous. Gameplay includes challenging dungeon explorations and large-scale battles. You’ll also meet various characters who give you tasks to complete, including well-known figures from literature like Victor Frankenstein and Mr. Hyde.
Players can journey through various worlds, each created randomly and tailored with cards that let you choose environments like deserts, forests, and swamps. You can enjoy the game by yourself or team up with as many as six other players. It also lets you play from either a first-person or third-person viewpoint.
I’m really excited about Nightingale! From what I’ve seen, it’s a game where you’re trying to survive and explore this awesome Victorian fantasy world. The best part? You can play with friends – it’s built around cooperative play, so teaming up is key. It seems like a really unique experience.
