Epic Games has shared information about the Nintendo Switch 2 variant of Fortnite, set to launch alongside the console. Moreover, they’ve announced that starting from a June 7, 2025 update, players will be able to use their Joy-Con 2 controllers as if they were mice in the game.
Playing Fortnite on the Switch 2 prior to March 31, 2026 grants you a complimentary emote upon login.
Fortnite supports the following features on Switch 2:
- 60 FPS
- Higher resolution (2176×1224 docked, 1600×900 undocked)
- Greater view distances
- Higher-quality textures, shadows, and water rendering
- Clothing physics
- Replay system
- Video clip capture via the Capture button
- GameChat support
- Mouse controls via Joy-Con 2
Epic has verified that the upgraded version of Fortnite will feature advanced geometry, distance field ambient occlusion in docked mode, shadow casting point lights, and high-quality visual effects. In simpler terms, this means that Fortnite will have improved graphics and performance on the Switch 2 compared to the original Switch. Given the technological advancements between the two devices, it’s not surprising that Fortnite would perform better on the Switch 2.
Immediately, all other features of the Switch 2 game are accessible, except for one – mouse controls. However, starting from June 7, 2025, with Update 36.00, players will be able to enjoy this innovative feature. This update allows users to control the game using their Joy-Con 2 controllers as a makeshift mouse, either individually or together, for aiming and navigating the user interface. The ZR button (or ZL, depending on which controller you’re using) will serve as the main mouse click function if players decide to utilize this feature.
To use mouse control for Fortnite on your Nintendo Switch 2, simply follow these steps: Access the Settings menu, move to the Mouse section, and finally choose the controllers that you prefer to function as a mouse within the Mouse Controls area.
Lately, Epic Games has unveiled plans to grant Fortnite creators with the essential tools needed to build and personalize their own AI-driven Non-Player Characters (NPCs) within the game.
