Empire Reveals The Mandalorian & Grogu Covers And New Movie Image

Empire Magazine recently revealed new cover photos and an image from the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, giving fans a sneak peek at Din Djarin and Grogu as they prepare for their big-screen adventure.

I was really excited to read the latest from Empire! They shared some new quotes from Dave Filoni and Pedro Pascal that made it clear this movie is all about the characters. It sounds like they’re focusing on telling a great story for these people, not setting up a whole new series of films. That’s a huge relief and honestly, makes me even more hyped for it!

Empire reveals new The Mandalorian & Grogu covers and image

The new Empire images spotlight Din and Grogu in two very different moods.

I just love this image! It really throws you right into the action with Mando standing in the snow. But what’s even cooler is the cover – it’s like a behind-the-scenes look at Din and Grogu relaxing in a director’s chair, as if they’re actually part of the filmmaking crew. It’s such a neat touch!

Dave Filoni says it’s “a big celebration”

Dave Filoni, a writer and director involved with The Mandalorian & Grogu, said the current state of Star Wars feels similar to the challenges faced when making Episode VII.

Filoni explains that Episode VII felt like something entirely new. He’d been imagining what it would be like since he first saw Return of the Jedi, constantly wondering what came next. He notes that Star Wars has moved into a completely different phase now.

Filoni explains that The Mandalorian & Grogu movie doesn’t need to launch a whole new series of films or feature a bunch of new characters. He describes it as a major celebration of the Mandalorian and Grogu themselves.

Where Din and Grogu are after Season 3

The third season concluded with a satisfying finale, showing Din and Grogu finding peace and building a home on Nevarro after defeating Moff Gideon and contributing to the liberation of Mandalore.

But Pedro Pascal says it’s not the end of their story.

“It only felt like the ending of a particular chapter,” Pascal tells Empire.

The ending showed Din accepting assignments from the New Republic at Adelphi Base, marking a fresh chapter in his career as a bounty hunter.

According to Pascal, the show allows the Mandalorian to keep doing what he’s best at – being a bounty hunter – but now he’s working on the side of good. It’s a blend of his skills and a growing sense of morality. When we first meet him, he’s purely focused on his abilities and protected by his Beskar armor and strict Creed. However, his bond with Grogu changes him, softening his heart and causing him to fight for what he believes is right, almost as if his armor is coming off.

Filoni says spectacle isn’t enough

Filoni also stresses that bigger set pieces only matter if the characters land.

Filoni points out that impressive visuals can only take a story so far. The real question is whether the audience will connect with the characters and genuinely feel the story. When the characters are compelling and relatable, that’s when the adventure, action, and suspense truly work.

Jon Favreau directed The Mandalorian & Grogu, featuring Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin, Sigourney Weaver as Colonel Ward, and Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt.

The film opens May 22, 2026, only in theaters.
