A screening will follow at 8 p.m., and DoLA confirmed this event is genuine and will be partially filmed. With *Bugonia*, Emma Stone collaborates with director Yorgos Lanthimos for the fourth time, continuing a working relationship that includes *The Favourite* (2018), *Poor Things* (2023), and *Kinds of Kindness* (2024). In this new film, Stone portrays a successful businesswoman who is kidnapped by two men convinced she’s an alien intent on destroying the planet. Earlier this year, Emma Stone discussed shaving her head for a film role with *Vogue*. She described it as a powerfully positive experience, saying it felt amazing. However, the cut was also emotionally significant for her. Stone remembered crying in her trailer before the haircut, as it reminded her of her mother, Krista, who had shaved her head while undergoing cancer treatment.

Bugonia is a darkly comedic and unusual film, and it’s an English-language adaptation of the 2003 South Korean movie *Save the Green Planet!* It was made with funding and collaboration from Ireland, South Korea, and the United States.

The project first started developing in 2020 with Jang Joon-hwan as the planned director and Tracy writing the script. Ari Aster was brought on as a producer. However, by early 2024, Yorgos Lanthimos became the director, and Emma Stone joined the team as both an actress and a producer. Jesse Plemons was added to the cast later in 2024. Filming took place in England, Georgia, and finally on the island of Milos in Greece.

The film *Bugonia* premiered at the Venice International Film Festival on August 28th and will be released in U.S. cinemas on October 24th by Focus Features.
