Emma Stone received two Oscar nominations this week for her work on the film Bugonia. She’s been nominated as Best Actress for her performance and also as a Best Picture nominee, as she was one of the film’s producers. The nominations were announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Emma Stone has achieved an impressive feat at just 37 years old: she’s the second-youngest person ever to receive seven Oscar nominations. Only Walt Disney, who accomplished this at age 34 in 1936, reached the milestone at a younger age. Stone also surpassed Meryl Streep’s previous record; Streep was 38 when she earned her seventh nomination back in 1988.
Emma Stone has made history again this week. She’s the first woman to be nominated for both acting and producing the same film twice. She previously accomplished this with Poor Things in 2023, following Frances McDormand who did it once with Nomadland in 2021. This demonstrates Stone’s skill and talent extend beyond acting and into producing.
Emma Stone has consistently impressed at the Academy Awards. She’s won two Best Actress Oscars out of five nominations, once for La La Land in 2016 and most recently for Poor Things. Another win this year would place her among a select few – only Katharine Hepburn (four wins) and Frances McDormand (three) have won the Best Actress award three or more times.
The competition is especially tough this year, with Jessie Buckley nominated for her role in Hamnet, Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Kate Hudson for Song Sung Blue, and Renate Reinsve for Sentimental Value.
The film Bugonia is competing for Best Picture against several popular movies, including the racing drama F1, a new take on the horror classic Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value, and the vampire thriller Sinners. Bugonia also received nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay, recognizing Will Tracy’s work, and Best Original Score, for Jerskin Fendrix.
Emma Stone has been a prominent actress for more than ten years. She initially rose to fame with roles in teen comedies such as Superbad and Easy A, and then became internationally recognized for portraying Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man films.
Recently, she’s been concentrating on creative projects. Bugonia is her latest collaboration with director Yorgos Lanthimos, following their successful partnerships on The Favourite, the Academy Award-winning Poor Things, and the film Kinds of Kindness. Their projects are celebrated for being quirky, humorous, and visually striking.
