Emily In Paris Showrunner Darren Star Addresses Show’s Location Switch To Rome In Season 5; ‘Expands The Universe’

As a lifestyle expert with a penchant for international affairs and a deep understanding of the intricacies of human relationships, I must say that Emily’s move to Rome in season 5 promises an exciting journey. Having traversed various cultural landscapes myself, I can empathize with the challenges she might face as she navigates the Italian way of life.

I won’t be residing in Paris for season 5 anymore! The finale of the fourth season revealed an exciting twist: my talented team at Agence Grateau secured a significant client in Rome, none other than my enchanting Italian suitor, Eugenio Franceschini. To add to the intrigue, our company is opening a new branch in Rome, with yours truly leading the charge as the savvy marketing mastermind.

It seemed as if she was the sole one finding her way in Rome’s cityscape, and the series hinted at the possibility that Gabriel may also have had a similar purpose.

The season four finale set the stage for the gang to conquer a new country. In an interview with TVLine, showrunner Darren Star addressed this massive change and what led them to this decision. According to Star, this will open new plotlines and cultural challenges for Emily to embrace.

She remarked, “It really broadens the world of the series,” she said. Star went on to explain that this choice was connected to the character’s personal development. As she becomes accustomed to the culture, people, and surroundings of Paris, she’ll soon find herself in another country with distinct cultural nuances, adding a fresh twist to the show.

She mentioned that along with our findings, there are significant cultural differences to examine when comparing France and Italy. Moreover, she emphasized their commitment to preserving French culture while acknowledging this new venture is an exciting exploration, stating, “It’s a whole new world, but we’re not abandoning Paris.” Star concluded.

In the final episode of season four, Emily appeared to be thriving – she relocated to a different nation, found a new partner, put an end to the troubles with Alfie-Gabriel, and was given the opportunity to head Agence Grateau’s Roman division. Yet, it’s highly unlikely that her life will run without a hitch!

Besides encountering a cultural shock, she may also find herself facing Gabriel once more, potentially placing her in the same predicament again. Upon receiving his Michelin star, Gabriel longed to commemorate his success with Emily. Later, he appeared emotionally touched upon hearing a voice message from her in French, suggesting that he aims to reconcile with her, which likely means more turbulence ahead!

All the seasons of Emily In Paris are streaming on Netflix.
