Lucas Bravo recently announced some thrilling news for fans of Emily in Paris. During a chat with Parade on April 4th, he disclosed that production for the fifth season is set to begin in May.
Come May, I’ll be rolling the cameras, excitedly announcing that this could very well be our best season yet, following the captivating opening night of the Broadway play ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’.
Since its debut, Bravo has portrayed the enchanting character of Chef Gabriel on the popular Netflix series. This show, masterminded by Darren Star, who is also known for Sex and the City, revolves around Lily Collins’ character Emily, a young American woman exploring life and love in Paris. Throughout the series, Gabriel has been significantly involved in the intricate romantic narrative, frequently found in a rollercoaster of on-again, off-again relationships with Emily.
Lucas Bravo didn’t give away any specific details, but suggested that season 5 will be packed with unexpected twists and turns. In his own words, “I had a chat with Darren a few days ago, and he shared some information without revealing too much. I believe fans are going to be blown away. It’s the wildest one yet.
Towards the close of season 4, Emily transferred to Rome for job purposes, taking charge of a fresh division within her high-end marketing firm. Alongside her, her most recent romantic interest, Marcello (portrayed by Eugenio Franceschini), was present. Viewers are intrigued as to whether Gabriel will join her in Rome or remain in Paris.
When questioned if actress Shailene Woodley would join him on set, Bravo chuckled and chose not to provide a straightforward response. A reporter from Parade raised speculations about a romantic liaison, yet Bravo just grinned and declared he was unsure of what they were discussing. Earlier in the day, Bravo informed PEOPLE that he was feeling “very content,” without verifying or denying the alleged relationship.
Despite being enthusiastic about season 5, Bravo had earlier expressed reservations about the show’s continuation. In an interview with France’s Le Figaro in October 2024, he openly questioned whether it was worth investing five months into filming a series that no longer sparked his creative interest.
Besides expressing his desire for Gabriel’s character development to be deeper, Bravo expressed concern that the show sometimes underestimated its audience’s intelligence. Moreover, Bravo mentioned feeling constrained creatively within the series and was now relishing fresh chances offering greater control.
During an interview with IndieWire the same month, Bravo expressed that he had grown detached from his character. He explained that while the “sexy chef” character resonated with him during season 1, they gradually grew apart as the character’s decisions and the show’s direction evolved. Bravo admitted that he had never felt so disconnected from Gabriel before.
