As a dedicated follower of Emily in Paris, I can confidently say that the fourth season has exceeded my expectations. Having watched each episode with bated breath over the past three seasons, it was refreshing to see how the show has evolved and matured, just like its protagonist Emily Cooper.
As a hopelessly devoted admirer, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Emily in Paris’ enchanting fourth season – a show that has left me spellbound with its enthralling storylines across the previous three seasons. The mastermind behind this captivating series, Andrew Fleming (the executive producer and director), has given us a tantalizing glimpse into what lies ahead for our beloved characters in the latest season. He also shared some behind-the-scenes struggles they encountered during filming. Keep reading to uncover more secrets!
In a chat with Us Weekly, director Andrew Fleming shared insights about his time on Emily in Paris over the last three seasons, and hinted at changes for season 4. He mentioned that the episodes will be more complex, intriguing, and require greater creativity.
Later on, he playfully hinted that Lily Collins’ character, Emily Cooper, was quite young, innocent, bubbly, and slightly peppy during the series. However, she has transformed into a completely different individual now, as she has grown up in Paris and gained more self-assurance. He also pointed out that this season will be unlike any other, stating it’s “fairly darker” and “more mature,” as they filmed it during winter, which added a unique atmosphere to the show.
In addition, Fleming shared some unforeseen hurdles encountered during filming, stating that working in Paris necessitated a continuous search for fresh locations since they aim to avoid using the same sites repeatedly, with the exception of Emily’s apartment and workplace. The director emphasized that Paris, being a “maze-like old city,” is brimming with endless possibilities, such as new passageways, cafes, museums, and nightclubs, which necessitated their constant exploration to uncover its charm.
The magazine inquired about how the notoriety of the series had influenced his filming process. In response, Andrew Fleming explained that during the initial season, they worked with a compact team and were virtually unknown, mentioning that nobody paid them any attention or even glanced at their work. He further stated, “We resembled an indie movie production.” Later, he mentioned that when Lily Collins was filming in Paris, it was like seeing Mickey Mouse or Santa Claus; it attracted a massive crowd.
Now that the show has become extremely popular, Fleming explained to the outlet that they needed to install barriers to handle fan excitement because they now have a larger production team. He mentioned that the show started as a very straightforward and innocent production, but since then, they’ve aimed to increase the dramatic tension and create more grandiose and thrilling set pieces.
Currently, Part 1 of Emily in Paris Season 4 is available for streaming on Netflix, and Part 2 will follow on September 12.
