As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for celebrity dynamics, I find it heartwarming to witness the Krasinski-Blunt family bonding over shared interests such as the US Open and their creative projects. John Krasinski’s anecdote about involving his daughters in the making of ‘IF’ is a testament to his commitment towards nurturing their creativity and imagination. It’s not every day you hear about accountants turning into movie directors, especially when your imaginary friends make it to the big screen!
This weekend, Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, along with their daughters Hazel (aged 10) and Violet (aged 7), attended the US Open Women’s final. On September 7th, they made their way to the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City to see Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula compete for the championship title.
In a relaxed outfit consisting of an olive green sweater and a Boston Red Sox baseball cap, a former cast member of The Office was seen. Meanwhile, the actress from Oppenheimer donned a black baseball cap and a black shirt. The children named Hazel and Violet, situated in between their parents, frequently swapped seats, with the youngest one frequently perching on either parent’s lap. In the end, Sabalenka emerged victorious, scoring 7-5 against Pegula.
Additionally present were celebrities such as Tina Fey, Kevin Jonas, Flavor Flav, Al Roker, Lewis Hamilton, Emma Roberts, Shailene Woodley, Simone Biles, Cynthia Erivo, John Mayer, and Serena Williams.
Krasinski recently wrote, produced and directed animated adventure film IF which also featured Blunt, voicing a unicorn. Back in May, the actor/director raved about how his daughters were part of the film’s creative process.
In a chat with PEOPLE, the actor playfully mentioned that his daughters saw him as an accountant prior to this movie, while they believed their mother was Mary Poppins and Jungle Cruise’s lead character. This gave her a significant advantage when it came to winning over our girls. And for this film, he shared with them the idea firsthand.
He recalled drawing the sketches of IF characters and showing them to Hazel and Violet to hear their verdict. “Once I started interfacing with real artists and talking about how it would really look, they got really excited,” he recalled. The Quiet Place actor-director revealed that the real imaginary friends of his girls also featured in the film.
In the movie, Maya Rudolph lent her voice to Violet’s imaginary friend, a pink alligator, while Hazel, one of the characters, found friendship with a marshmallow that melted, also appearing in the film. As they were making s’mores one evening, Hazel’s marshmallow caught fire, leaving her deeply upset because she had unintentionally harmed some living being, as Krasinski remembered.
