As an avid fan, I can’t help but be in awe of Emilia Clarke’s incredible strength and resilience. Her journey from playing the fierce and powerful Khaleesi on Game of Thrones to battling her own life-threatening health issues is nothing short of inspiring. It’s truly amazing how she found solace and coping mechanisms in the very character that helped save her life.
On October 23rd, Emilia Clarke, who is famously known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones, reached the age of 38. As we celebrate this significant day for her, let’s reflect back on when she shared how portraying this iconic character aided in saving her life.
In a 2021 conversation with Variety, Clarke shared insights into her personal health struggles and revealed that the character of Khaleesi (Daenerys) provided solace for her during her experience with two brain aneurysms and subsequent operations.
Clarke once stated, “Daenerys truly rescued me from a difficult situation.” She explained further, “Speaking of someone saving your life can be quite profound when you’ve experienced a brain injury.
As a devoted fan, stepping into Daenerys’ iconic sandals for each Game of Thrones season felt like a life-changing experience. It granted me an empowering sense of strength I’d never known before. In those critical moments, it wasn’t me acting – it was Daenerys guiding and protecting me, making me feel as if she was rescuing me with her very essence.
In a 2021 conversation with The New Yorker, Emilia Clarke shared details about her health struggles. It was during this interview that she disclosed that she experienced her first brain aneurysm in the year 2011, just after completing the third season of Game of Thrones.
The actress explained that it felt as though a rubber band was tightly constricting her mind during her initial aneurysm, which occurred while exercising at a fitness center in North London. Clark recounted her efforts to disregard the discomfort and continue with her workout regimen, but ultimately found herself unable to persevere.
After taking a brief rest, she made her way to the locker room, then to the bathroom, where she suddenly became extremely sick. Clark described experiencing intense, sharp pains, like being shot or stabbed, and came to understand that she had sustained some form of brain injury.
Over the holiday season, the actress who played the leading role in the last Christmas movie was found to have a subarachnoid hemorrhage following an MRI scan. She then had her initial brain operation in a low-key manner.
At a particularly hectic point in her life, she found herself so engrossed that she barely had any space for something as complex as brain surgery. However, eventually, she managed to slow down and commit. That’s what the actress stated later on.
Clark additionally disclosed that at the time of her initial operation, she was only 24 years old. Moreover, she openly discussed her understanding that this wouldn’t be her final procedure and that there would be more challenging ones to come.
Emilia Clarke underwent another surgery in 2013 and successfully treated her second aneurysm.
