Emilia Clarke and Haley Lu Richardson celebrated the premiere of their new show, ‘Ponies,’ this week in New York City. The novel ‘Ponies’ is set in Moscow during the late 1970s, a time of Cold War tensions. It centers around two women who work unassuming jobs at the American Embassy, initially seen as minor employees.

After the mysterious deaths of their husbands, these women are recruited into a dangerous world of espionage with the CIA. Clarke stars as Bea, an intelligent and cultured woman with connections to Russia, while Richardson plays Twila, a fearless woman from a small town. Together, they uncover a complex political conspiracy that threatens their lives.

Susanna Fogel and David Iserson created the show, with Fogel directing and Iserson overseeing production. In addition to starring in the series, Clarke also served as an executive producer. Filming started in Budapest, Hungary in early 2025, and Haley Lu Richardson joined the cast later in 2024, with more actors added throughout 2025. Universal Television is producing the series.

The new series, Ponies, launched on Peacock on January 15, 2026. The first season has eight hour-long episodes, and initial reviews are very positive. Both Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic show generally favorable ratings from critics, indicating a strong start for the show.
