In a heartfelt conversation with The Times, music icon Elton John opened up about the challenges his health condition poses in his role as a father of two. Specifically, he discussed how his serious eye problem limits his vision, leading to stressful situations when it comes to caring for his children.
He said to the media, ‘I can’t read and I miss seeing my sons play rugby and soccer. It’s been a really tough period for me.’ He further explained that due to his ability to quickly absorb his environment, this situation has been particularly upsetting for him.
John is the father of Zachary, age 14, and Elijah, age 12, who are his sons with his husband David Furnish. Despite facing challenging times, he never forgets to appreciate his blessings. He expressed this by saying, “I am fortunate enough to have my amazing family, and I can still find joy in the world around me.
Despite his health issues, the Grammy-winning artist pressed forward and collaborated with Brandi Carlile to produce the album titled “Who Believes in Angels?” John himself commented that the album’s name serves as a reminder to keep going, saying, “You just have to tell yourself, ‘Carry on!’
Last year, a singer initially disclosed his vision impairment in a post on Instagram, explaining that it stemmed from an infection he had acquired. In a subsequent interview with Good Morning America that same year, this musician-composer shared that he contracted the infection while vacationing in France during the summer months.
He informed the media that he was unable to observe or catch any sights at that moment. Furthermore, he mentioned that his left eye hasn’t been in top shape, but he has proactively worked towards improving its condition.
In his recent documentary “Elton John: Never Too Late,” the artist confessed that his sons are concerned about his potential passing. He stated, “They contemplate my mortality. They are anxious about my mortality.” During an interview with People magazine, Furnish, his partner, acknowledged that revisiting this scene caused him apprehension.
“I don’t want to plant that seed in their mind,” Furnish told the outlet.
