As a dedicated follower of Elton John‘s illustrious career, I find myself deeply moved by his recent struggles and resilience. Having witnessed the extraordinary journey of this legendary musician, it is heart-wrenching to see him grappling with the loss of sight in one eye, yet inspiring to observe his unyielding spirit.
During a Good Morning America interview on Monday, November 25th, Elton John disclosed some disappointing news about an earlier reported eye infection. He explained that this infection caused him to lose vision in his right eye back in July. Moreover, he mentioned that his left eye isn’t in perfect condition either, as he has been without sight for nearly four months now.
Despite the challenges, Elton John has kept a positive outlook during this difficult time, expressing optimism about moving forward. He stated, “There’s a sense of hope and encouragement that things will get better.” Unfortunately, his health issues have significantly affected what he cherishes most – his work.
At present, doing interviews is still feasible for him, but visiting a studio to record songs appears unattainable. This is because he, as explained, can’t see clearly enough to read lyrics or any other material. In essence, his vision is too poor to perceive anything at all. However, he hinted at taking steps to improve the situation, without disclosing specifics.
Regarding his music, John announced his upcoming album last year during his acceptance speech for longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin’s induction. He hinted that the new tunes would take listeners by surprise with their uniqueness. However, in a recent update on the project, John admitted that he has been idle for some time and is eager to start working again, suggesting that the recording of the songs may not be complete yet.
A few weeks past, during an interview with Variety, the Grammy-winning artist shared insights about his forthcoming documentary titled Never Too Late, featuring a title track penned by Brandi Carlile, who joined him for the conversation. “I saw that documentary,” stated Carlile, “and I was left in awe and almost moved to tears.
She commended John for more than just being cool; she found him exceptionally resilient in difficult situations. She revealed that his determination, endurance, and unwavering dedication to conquering obstacles left such an impact on her that she wrote a song to celebrate it.
