Elon Musk’s youngest twins, part of his total of 14 children, have names inspired by popular fantasy worlds – The Lord of the Rings and the video game Elden Ring.
Tesla Owners Silicon Valley posted a picture of Elon Musk with his twins, and he shared why he chose their names. He’d previously described having children as “a statement of optimism” and explained the meaning behind the names in a reply to the post.
The twins were born to Musk and Shivon Zilis, an executive at Neuralink.
Elon Musk breaks down why he named kids after LOTR and Elden Ring
Musk revealed his son is named Strider after a nickname used for the character Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings. People in the Shire and Bree gave Aragorn this nickname because he was a skilled ranger known for his swift and silent travels.
His middle name, Sekhar, honors the renowned physicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, whose research greatly advanced our knowledge of stars, how they change over time, and black holes.
I have two children: my son, Strider Sekhar – named after both Aragorn from Lord of the Rings and the renowned Indian physicist Chandrasekhar – and my daughter, Comet Azure, inspired by a powerful spell from the video game Elden Ring.

Elon Musk’s daughter, Comet Azure, is a dedicated gamer. He explained her name comes from a powerful spell in the game Elden Ring called Comet Azur, which launches a huge, damaging comet from long distances.
In 2022, Elon Musk declared Elden Ring his favorite game of the year, despite receiving online criticism from players who jokingly called his character build the ‘worst ever’.
For years, Elon Musk has openly shared his passion for video games. He’s discussed enjoying both classic and newer role-playing games, and has even suggested creating his own game studio powered by artificial intelligence, with the goal of improving the quality of games.
