James Gunn’s version of Superman narrated a tale of a valiant superhero striving to bring goodness in a world filled with wickedness. His Clark Kent stood as a guiding light amidst the shadows, serving as an inspiration for what we should aspire to be. While such a character might seem like pure fiction, there exists a real-life figure embodying these qualities – Elmo, a perpetual source of joy and optimism. Therefore, it was only fitting that DC’s esteemed hero visited the set of Sesame Street to meet Elmo, the beloved red icon. And when they finally met, the new Superman/Clark Kent, David Corenswet, imparted upon Elmo the importance of eyeglasses as the perfect disguise.
Before moving on to any other topic in the charming encounter between Superman and Elmo, let’s acknowledge a joking reference that has been made before and will likely be repeated again: Kal-Elmo (a blend of Superman’s real name, Kal-El, with Elmo).
Absolutely! It was enjoyable. I also found myself appreciating this video where David Corenswet as Superman’s character, Elmo, learns how a pair of black glasses can effectively hide one’s identity. When Elmo dons Clark Kent’s signature spectacles, even Cookie Monster struggles to recognize his longtime friend. It’s the ideal disguise, not needing any Hypno-Glasses. Just a subtle, mostly see-through accessory for the face. However, I have a feeling that if Elmo were baking cookies while wearing these Superman glasses, Cookie Monster might not be so perplexed.
Besides Corenswet, another star from the Superman series, specifically Lois Lane portrayed by Rachel Brosnahan, visited Sesame Street too. They both imparted an essential lesson to Elmo regarding the real qualities of a superhero.
Here are two fun videos that Corenswet created featuring the cherished puppets. For more, check out Sesame Street’s Instagram page. With all that’s going on, who doesn’t need a dose of kindness—or even a furry red monster—these days? It’s just delightful to see them spending time together. Maybe it’s time for Superman and Elmo to team up in their own TV series!
