Elle King Reveals Her Dad Rob Schneider Sent Her to ‘Fat Camp’ When She Was a Child; Says It Was ‘Toxic’

As a devoted fan of Elle King, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of empathy for her tumultuous relationship with her father, Rob Schneider. Growing up, it seems she faced an unconventional childhood marred by weight-related struggles and feelings of isolation on movie sets.

Elle King, a well-known American singer and musician, recently discussed her challenging relationship with her father, comedian Rob Schneider. In a sneak peek for an upcoming episode of Bunnie Xo’s Dumb Blonde podcast, the 35-year-old artist who sings Ex’s & Oh’s, revealed that her dad, now 60 years old, once made her attend a weight loss camp when she was young.

In a recent TikTok post on August 10th, I (Elle King) opened up about my past experiences. As a child, I struggled with weight issues and my dad decided to send me to a fat camp. However, one year, I got into trouble for not losing weight after an ankle sprain. I found that experience to be incredibly toxic and absurd.

As a passionate admirer, I can’t help but voice my dissent when it comes to several of Elle King’s father’s viewpoints, especially on matters such as drag and anti-LGBTQ+ rights. To set the record straight, let me assert that I wholeheartedly disagree with his statements. Meanwhile, regarding the character portrayed by Schneider in 50 First Dates, I haven’t been able to get a response from his representatives about their stance on the subject.

Growing up mainly in Ohio, Elle King was brought up by her mom, London King, and stepfather, Justin Tesa. As an adult, she rekindled her relationship with her father, Rob Schneider, who had been estranged during her childhood. Looking back on their time together, King recalled that summers spent with him often meant being on movie sets, where she sometimes felt ignored and could find herself in trouble for unintentionally disrupting a scene.

Elle King reminisced about her father, Rob Schneider, always forgetting her birthdays, even on significant ones like her 18th when she was in summer school. He didn’t acknowledge her on these occasions. In 2018, she disclosed that they had reconnected after a period of estrangement following her exit from a harmful marriage and battles with substance abuse and mental health problems. Yet, in a recent interview, King mentioned that long periods often pass without their communication and stated, “He didn’t assist me,” although she emphasized, “I never desired his help.”

Elle King, the talented singer behind the catchy tune “Ex’s & Oh’s”, has openly stated that she prefers to distance herself from her father, Rob Schneider, due to his less-than-favorable image. She further explained that he simply isn’t a kind person. In a heartfelt interview, King discussed their strained relationship, sharing her attempts at reconciliation through letters and gentle conversations, only to find these efforts often falling on deaf ears. Reflecting on the situation, she acknowledged that while one can hope for change in others, it’s ultimately beyond our control – we can only manage our own reactions. At times, King admitted, her emotions can boil over, leading to outbursts she describes as “bust[ing] my lid.”
