Elle Fanning Joins Cast of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping: Here’s Everything We Know So Far

The anticipation surrounding updates for “The Hunger Games: Sunrise” is growing more intriguing. Actress Elle Fanning will soon join the world of Panem, portraying Effie Trinket – the personal stylist to District 12’s tribute Haymitch Abernathy prior to the 50th Hunger Games.

In a previous announcement by Lionsgate, it has been revealed that the upcoming film will feature Joseph Zada portraying Haymitch Abernathy, Whitney Peak in the role of Lenore Dove Baird, Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee, Maya Hawke as Wiress, Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Beetee, Lili Taylor as Mags, Ben Wang as Wyatt, and Ralph Fiennes taking on the character of President Snow.

In the upcoming production, Molly McCann takes on the character of Louella, while Iona Bell steps into the shoes of Lou Lou, Louella’s Capitol-appointed doppelganger.

The upcoming movie is a prequel to “The Hunger Games,” titled “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” which was originally penned by Suzanne Collins. Instead of happening after the first novel’s events, this film takes place an astounding 24 years prior. Intriguingly, it explores themes such as political machinations, the potency of propaganda, and the intricate dynamics of societal control within a totalitarian regime, all culminating in the 50th edition of the Hunger Games.

All About Haymitch Abernathy!

Joseph Zada, an actor known for his exceptional performances in “We Were Liars” and “Total Control,” will take on the role of Haymitch Abernathy in this production.

In District 12 resides Abernathy, a blunt and quick-tempered sixteen-year-old who lives with his struggling mother and younger sibling, Sid. When it came time for the 50th Annual Hunger Games, an event where each district supplies two boys and two girls as contestants, a tribute made an attempt to flee.

To conceal their true intentions, Capitol authorities replace the original choice with Haymitch for the tribute selection. This event is reminiscent of a second reaping. The other District 12 tributes alongside Haymitch are Wyatt Callow, Louella McCoy, and Maysilee Donner.

As a loyal follower, during the Grand Procession, I witnessed the tragic demise of Louella at the hands of a horse-drawn carriage. In a bold act of resistance against President Snow, my mentor Haymitch chose to defy him by placing Louella’s body outside his residence. However, following the Grand Procession, President Snow issued a stern warning to Haymitch, threatening that if he persisted in his rebellion, the Gamemakers would mete out a gruesome punishment upon him. Subsequently, a stand-in for Louella was introduced, who took part in the ensuing games.

The film will be released by Lionsgate on November 20, 2026.
