Elizabeth Taylor’s Granddaughter Teases ‘New Perspective’ On Legendary Star’s Upcoming Biopic Series; Kim Kardashian To Co-Write Script

As a lifelong fan of Elizabeth Taylor, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of anticipation for the upcoming BBC2 documentary, “Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar.” Having followed her tumultuous yet captivating life from my humble abode (okay, it was a big mansion in Beverly Hills), I am eager to see how this three-part series will delve deeper into the human side of this iconic figure.

The extraordinary life of the late, iconic actress Elizabeth Taylor has been as captivating as any daytime drama, featuring eight marriages, struggles with addiction, and numerous other events. Typically, depictions of her life on screen are characterized by dramatic, sensationalized, and even exaggerated portrayals. Yet, the forthcoming BBC2 documentary titled “Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar,” presented in a three-part series, will offer a unique perspective on the legendary actress’s life.

Naomi Wilding, Taylor’s granddaughter, is one of the significant contributors to the project. She intends to offer a distinct viewpoint into her late grandmother’s life, which was somewhat controversial. In an interview with The Guardian, she shared that she initially hesitated to participate but felt the series would portray her grandmother’s story more empathetically from a human perspective.

She further explained how celebrities are mere humans and as fragile as the rest of us, despite the public persona. “We’re ready to look at celebrity from a different perspective. They might have money and power but they’re still fallible people with feelings,” she added.

Above all, they aim to present this movie as a “warning story” that encourages viewers to reflect on the representation of women in the media. Wilding aspires that the series will shift people’s perspectives – transforming her portrayal from a scandalous figure into one who courageously forged her own path and made her own choices. “I hope a new generation can admire this, as her story remains incredibly pertinent today.

The documentary is overseen by reality star Kim Kardashian, who shares a similar public existence with Taylor. “Elizabeth’s love holds the top spot for me,” said Kim Kardashian, founder of SKIMS, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. She described her vision of Elizabeth as “everything.” Previously, during a conversation with Variety, Kim admired Elizabeth as a “fighter” who lived life unapologetically and authentically.

The film was created by the award-winning production company, Passion Pictures, known for “Searching for Sugar Man,” with Hamish Fergusson taking on the roles of creative director and executive producer. In an interview with Deadline, Fergusson shared insights about working on this project alongside Kardashian.

It’s an extraordinary chance to narrate Elizabeth Taylor’s tale, alongside Kim Kardashian, and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed creating this,” she noted. “This story offers a unique glimpse into 20th-century life, and it’s packed with depth as well as style,” the producer further commented.

Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar will be released on BBC 2 on September 27.
