In a recent interview, Elizabeth Olsen has revealed that she won’t rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), implying that her character, Scarlet Witch, will not feature in upcoming projects such as “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Secret Wars.” This means she won’t be part of the new Avengers team or potentially aligning with Robert Downey Jr.’s character, Doctor Doom. The speculation about a Scarlet Witch solo movie seems to be unfounded at this point.
While speaking with THR, Olsen says she has moved on from Marvel and has another project lined up:
Regarding her role as the beloved Marvel character, Olsen clarifies that she won’t be involved in the Russo brothers’ forthcoming films, “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars”. These projects are about to start filming in London, and following the completion of Sam Esmail’s “Panic Carefully” in London, Olsen has returned to the US. She further mentions, “I’m now focusing on filming a pilot for FX titled Seven Sisters.
Why isn’t Elizabeth Olsen returning?
She explains that she won’t feature in any of the upcoming Avengers films because she finds that the Marvel Cinematic Universe requires a significant amount of her time.
Six years ago, it struck me that Marvel’s extensive presence in the world demands that I make choices beyond Marvel that align with my personal preferences. As your taste shapes the artist you become, this was something I hadn’t considered when I began my career. Now, the chance to rejoin projects like [‘The Assessment’] mirrors the people I wish to collaborate with and my own individual tastes. (Elizabeth Olsen to The Hollywood Reporter)
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was a disappointment
It’s noteworthy that, in past interviews, she seemed to imply that her role in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” was chaotic and poorly received. Critics also considered the film a significant letdown. She expressed interest in rejoining the MCU only if there were “brilliant writers” who could help create a coherent storyline for her return.
Release info
The movie titled “Avengers: Doomsday” is set for release on May 1, 2026. Following that, “Avengers: Secret Wars” will be released on May 7, 2027. Notably, the Russo brothers are back to direct these upcoming films. They’ve subtly suggested that these new Avengers movies will reset the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
