As an ardent fan and admirer of Elizabeth Debicki‘s mesmerizing acting skills, I can truly appreciate her heartfelt confession about her struggle to let go of her portrayal of Princess Diana in The Crown. It’s not every day we come across an actress who becomes so immersed in a role that it leaves a lasting impact on her life.
Elizabeth Debicki gave a outstanding performance in the popular Netflix historical drama series The Crown, where she took on the role of the late beloved Princess Diana. Interestingly, Debicki has admitted that it was tough for her to move on from her character. She disclosed that even after completing the sixth and final season of the show, she continued to mimic the royal princess for quite some time.
Recently speaking with PEOPLE magazine, actress Elizabeth Debicki shared insights into her emotional journey of playing the role of the late Princess Diana on The Crown. After completing the final season, she revealed that it took some time to disconnect from her portrayal of the iconic figure.
Debicki explained that her voice transformed significantly, acknowledging that she had to deliberately bring it back to her own voice and accent. The actress of “The Tale” revealed that she had put so much effort into mastering Diana’s voice that it became second nature to her, requiring her to “undo the gears” in order to revert to her original voice.
The 33-year-old actress pointed out that she was performing a great deal of physical actions and frequently tilted her head, admitting that she would automatically adopt these habits without realizing it. She then explained that as she slipped into character, she said, “I no longer do that, but I had to consciously practice it.”
As a devoted admirer, I can’t contain my excitement as I recount my experience of embodying the extraordinary figure of Princess Diana on screen. What truly captivated me during this journey was witnessing the evolution of her philanthropic endeavors. It was profoundly moving to observe how deeply committed she was to activism, pouring her heart and soul into countless causes. Her dedication was not merely a role; it was a genuine passion that resonates with me even today.
The actress from “The Breath” remarked, “Discovering the extent of her personal involvement in that work was both intriguing and beautifully enlightening.”
The Monarchy has garnered 18 nominations at the 2024 Emmys, with Elizabeth Debicki being among them for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama. She shared her joy, stating she is “delighted” that numerous members of her cast have also been recognized alongside her.
Debicki stated that the series had been going on for quite some time, and she along with her fellow cast members had been on this journey for close to three years. This encompassed preparation, filming, and promotional activities. She characterized it as a satisfying finale, using the phrase “a delightful culmination of a long and captivating — yet at times quite demanding — phase in our acting careers.”
Meanwhile, The Crown is available on Netflix.
