As a total Disney+ addict, I’ve noticed some weeks are just a whirlwind tour of everything they offer – from the imaginative worlds of Pixar and Marvel, to their live-action reimaginings and all those beloved animated films that just *always* seem to be trending. This week is one of those weeks! It’s a really fun mix of brand new stuff coming out in 2025 alongside modern classics and even some movies I grew up with in the early 2000s.
Here’s a list of 10 recommendations, counting down to our top pick. For each one, we’ve included a brief overview, the main actors, and key people involved in making it, so you can quickly decide what to watch.
10. ‘Zootopia’ (2016)
‘Zootopia’ follows Judy Hopps, a new rabbit police officer, as she partners with Nick Wilde, a sly fox, to solve the mystery of several missing animals in a city built for creatures of all kinds. The film features the voices of Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, Jenny Slate, J. K. Simmons, Octavia Spencer, and Shakira.
Directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, and written by Jared Bush and Phil Johnston, the Disney animated film was a huge success, earning over $1 billion worldwide and winning an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The film’s music was composed by Michael Giacchino.
9. ‘Ice Age’ (2002)
‘Ice Age’ takes place during the last Ice Age and follows the unlikely friendship between a mammoth named Manny, a sloth named Sid, and a saber-tooth tiger named Diego. They team up to return a lost human baby to its parents. The film features the voices of Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, and Jack Black.
Chris Wedge directed the Blue Sky Studios film, written by Michael Berg, Michael J. Wilson, and Peter Ackerman. It was a major success for 20th Century Fox Animation and started a popular franchise that now streams on Disney+.
8. ‘Ratatouille’ (2007)
Pixar’s ‘Ratatouille’ tells the story of Remy, a talented rat who dreams of becoming a chef. He teams up with a clumsy kitchen helper named Linguini to create amazing food in a famous Parisian restaurant. The film features excellent voice acting from stars like Patton Oswalt, Lou Romano, Ian Holm, Peter O’Toole, and Janeane Garofalo.
As a huge movie fan, I always love knowing who’s behind the scenes! This film was mostly the vision of Brad Bird – he wrote and directed it, building on an initial idea from Jan Pinkava. Of course, it’s a Pixar production, distributed by Disney, which always means quality. And the music? Absolutely fantastic – Michael Giacchino did the score. I especially loved that the DVD and Blu-ray came with those great Pixar shorts, like ‘Lifted’ and ‘Your Friend the Rat’ – a perfect bonus!
7. ‘The Princess and the Frog’ (2009)
Okay, so I just watched ‘The Princess and the Frog,’ and it’s a really charming story! It’s set in New Orleans and centers around Tiana, a super-talented cook with big dreams of owning her own restaurant. Things get interesting when Prince Naveen, after a bit of magical trouble, gets turned into a frog! The voice acting is fantastic, with Anika Noni Rose as Tiana and a seriously impressive supporting cast including Bruno Campos, Keith David, Jenifer Lewis, Oprah Winfrey, Terrence Howard, and even John Goodman. Definitely a fun watch!
Ron Clements and John Musker directed the film, and they also co-wrote the screenplay with Rob Edwards. Randy Newman composed the songs. Walt Disney Animation Studios produced it, and the film represented a return to traditional hand-drawn animation for the studio.
6. ‘Lost in the Jungle’ (2025)
This 2025 documentary on Disney+ tells the incredible true story of four young siblings who miraculously survived a plane crash and spent 40 days lost in the Colombian rainforest. The film, which lasts about 96 minutes, features interviews with the children themselves and the people who rescued them.
A recent National Geographic documentary focuses on a dramatic rescue operation where Indigenous trackers and the military worked together against the clock. The film highlights this collaboration as a key part of the story.
5. ‘Incredibles 2’ (2018)
‘Incredibles 2’ continues the story of the Parr family as they try to convince the public that superheroes should be legal. Elastigirl gets most of the attention while Mr. Incredible stays home to manage the everyday challenges-and the surprisingly powerful baby Jack-Jack. The original voice cast, including Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, and Samuel L. Jackson, are back, joined by new actors Catherine Keener and Bob Odenkirk.
Brad Bird wrote and directed the film, with Pixar handling production and Michael Giacchino composing the music. It broke box office records for animated movies when it came out and continued the popular, well-received streak of the series.
4. ‘The Incredibles’ (2004)
The Pixar film features the Parr family-Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl-as they attempt to balance superheroics with everyday suburban life. When a new villain emerges, they must return to action. The voice cast includes Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jason Lee.
Directed by Brad Bird, this film was a major success in 2004, earning both the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and Best Sound Editing. It also performed very well at the box office globally. The music was composed by Michael Giacchino for Pixar Animation Studios.
3. ‘Thunderbolts*’ (2025)
The upcoming Marvel movie, ‘Thunderbolts*’, brings together a team of complex characters – those who aren’t quite heroes, but aren’t exactly villains either. This new, live-action version of ‘Lilo & Stitch’ brings the heartwarming Hawaiian story to life again. It follows Lilo (played by Maia Kealoha), a lonely girl who finds a friend in a mischievous alien she calls Stitch – voiced once more by Chris Sanders, who created the character. The film also stars Sydney Agudong, Zach Galifianakis, and Billy Magnussen, with special appearances from Tia Carrere, Amy Hill, and Jason Scott Lee, all returning from previous ‘Lilo & Stitch’ movies.
