Elder Scrolls Oblivion-in-Skyrim mod still on track for a 2025 release

In the year 2023, the Skyblivion team publicly declared their ambitious project of remaking The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using Skyrim’s engine was on schedule for a 2025 launch. But by the gods and my favorite pastries, they’ve accomplished it! Or so it seems based on a fresh live gameplay demo and Q&A video (bravo, PC Gamer.)

SKYBLIVION Live Gameplay Demo and Q&A [Liking The Stream Is Appreciated]

Since 2012, Skyblivion (distinct from Skywind) has been under development by a dedicated group of volunteer experts. As stated by the lead on mechanics, Scott Whiting, in the provided video, “It’s shaping up quite impressively,” with optimism that it will be released this year. The video offers a glimpse into Cheydinhal, demonstrating NPC interactions and quests. I find the UI particularly noteworthy, as it successfully merges Skyrim’s clean readability with Oblivion’s intricate parchment aesthetic. Additionally, the team is working on replicating Oblivion’s expansive world, while also incorporating new music tracks and refining dungeon settings to align better with their respective geographical regions.

Incredibly touching, isn’t it? Not only have these passionate volunteers dedicated over a decade to their beloved sport, but they also succeeded in collecting an impressive $1200 for Make-A-Wish International during their broadcast. What a wonderful display of love and generosity!

I haven’t played Oblivion for a while now, but I recall there was some kind of stir over an unusual feature – the ability to supposedly marry your horse, which caused quite a fuss among traditional commentators. Bethesda referred to it as ‘horse amour’, although they later changed the term to ‘equine companion’ when ‘mount’ became inappropriate.

Regarding the highly anticipated Elder Scrolls 6, we’re just as eagerly waiting for news as you are. If you have any inside information, please share! It’s possible that Bethesda is keeping the project under wraps until they can think of innovative ways to monetize it, although this is purely speculative based on my years of observing the game industry.
