For devotees of “The Elder Scrolls” series, we’re still in anticipation for the next installment in Bethesda and Todd Howard‘s renowned RPG saga. Over seven years since its initial unveiling, we’ve only received small bits of information. However, there is one fact that has been confirmed: “The Elder Scrolls 6” will utilize the same engine as “Starfield”.
Todd Howard, the director, has been open about the studio’s upcoming game projects being heavily reliant on the Creation Engine 2. However, it’s essential to understand that while both games utilize this engine, it won’t be simply repeated in its entirety for The Elder Scrolls VI (TES6). Instead, TES6 will expand upon Starfield’s application of the creation engine with unique features designed specifically to enhance the Elder Scrolls gaming experience.
We just need to believe in Todd Howard and Bethesda

Ever since Bethesda hinted at The Elder Scrolls 6 in 2018, it’s been a rollercoaster for us gamers – especially after the divided response to Fallout 76. Unfortunately, updates on the game have been scant, leaving many of us wondering if it’s even in development right now. The tidbits we do know about the game primarily come from various interviews given since then.
Starfield modifiers have skillfully adjusted certain ini files, resulting in an astonishingly breathtaking display of what the Creation Engine 2 is truly capable of when given free rein! Here’s a sneak peek at how The Elder Scrolls 6 could potentially appear.

Previously, in June 2021, Todd Howard mentioned during an interview with The Telegraph that Creation Engine 2 was designed to work for both Starfield and TES6. In other words, they had intended to employ the engine for their upcoming spacefaring sci-fi game as well as the next installment in The Elder Scrolls series following Skyrim.

It’s evident that TES6 won’t just be a repainted version of Starfield, as Howard pointed out that although they share the same engine, each game will have its unique style and approach.
Every game incorporates fresh technological advancements, therefore, The Elder Scrolls 6 might include enhancements to the Creation Engine 2 that it will necessitate.
It would be beneficial to consider this method since it enables developers to incrementally enhance their game engine instead of constructing a fresh one for every new game. This strategy is also more economical, considering the substantial resources, both monetary and developmental, that the studio has previously invested in Unreal Engine.
We have no release date or any other details; we just have to hope it works out
In contrast to the clamor from fans requesting TES6 to switch to Unreal Engine 5, Bethesda remains resolute in their decision. While we’ve witnessed the impressive visual capabilities that UE5 offers, we’ve also encountered numerous potential issues with it. Furthermore, there’s a concern about modding compatibility. Games using Unreal Engine can incorporate mods, but Bethesda has customized its creation engine for modding due to the widespread popularity of Skyrim and other games they’ve developed.
One key topic Howard has frequently discussed throughout his career is the importance of endurance. Rather than simply creating a game that impresses at launch, Bethesda aspires for The Elder Scrolls 6 to have a similar lasting impact as Skyrim. Essentially, they are striving to build a framework with Creation Engine 2 that can sustain the game effectively for many years to come.
By March 2025, it’s likely that “The Elder Scrolls 6” will remain unavailable for purchase, as the most optimistic projections from the Microsoft/FTC case suggest a release date no sooner than 2026. In fact, considering all factors, it appears we might be looking at a wait of another two years before its launch.
