Elden Ring’s Switch 2 port delayed into 2026 by FromSoftware for “performance adjustments,” and people are surprisingly OK about it: “I’d rather it releases in a better state”

Even though not everyone who loves FromSoftware games will own a Switch 2, fans of both are facing a disappointment. The Elden Ring port for Nintendo’s new handheld console has been pushed back to 2026, but surprisingly, many people seem to be taking the news in stride.

FromSoftware’s acclaimed game was revealed for the Switch 2 in April. Nintendo fans have been waiting a while to play this fantasy action RPG, but they’ll receive a special ‘Tarnished Edition’ that includes both the original game and the ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’ expansion.

The release of Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, initially expected in 2025, has been delayed until sometime in 2026. According to an official tweet, the developers need more time to improve performance. They apologized to fans for the delay.

While it’s a letdown, it wasn’t unexpected. We hadn’t received much news about the new version of the popular game since its announcement, and with the year almost over, it seemed probable it would be delayed.

Players seem to be reacting positively to the news. One player commented, “It’s good they’re prioritizing a stable launch. I’d prefer a slightly delayed release to a broken game that requires a huge, problematic patch.”

Someone else commented that it’s better to delay the game than release a flawed product. It’s common for fans to scrutinize FromSoftware’s performance, as their games often require updates after launch to fix bugs and improve stability.

Many fans are hoping the next Switch will still use physical game cartridges, like older consoles, instead of only offering digital downloads – something some recent Switch games have moved towards. We likely won’t know for sure until the console is released, but it’s clear there’s a strong desire for physical copies. Regardless, a new wave of players are about to experience the notoriously difficult boss Malenia, and I’m excited to see how they react!
