Elden Ring Nightreign’s duo mode and other content have been delayed after an 8.8 magnitude earthquake sparks a tsunami warning across Japan

Tomorrow, July 31st, was set to be the release date for Elden Ring Nightreign’s 1.02 patch, featuring the eagerly awaited duos mode and balance adjustments. However, FromSoftware has postponed this update due to a string of tsunami warnings.

“Because of a tsunami alert triggered by an earthquake in the Kamchatka Peninsula, FromSoftware has chosen to delay the release of the Elden Ring Nightreign patch 1.02. This also means that the second phase of the Everdark Sovereign, initially set for 3:00 CEST / 18:00 PDT tomorrow, will be postponed until after the update has been disseminated. We appreciate your patience.”

Yesterday, an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 occurred close to Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, making it one of the most powerful earthquakes ever documented. As a result, over 900,000 people in 133 municipalities along Japan’s eastern coast have been issued evacuation notices due to warnings from the Japanese Meteorological Agency about potential waves reaching up to 3 metres high (as reported by The Guardian).

For quite some time, Nightreign enthusiasts have eagerly awaited the Duo mode feature. In fact, some players have gone so far as to create their own modifications to bridge the gap before FromSoftware officially rolled it out. However, despite this anticipation, the reaction from players has been surprisingly subdued. This can be attributed to the fact that many are more concerned with ensuring everyone’s safety.

Initially planned to debut following update 1.02, the recently unveiled Everdark Sovereign Augur has been pushed back until that update is released. Originally slated as the initial Nightlord receiving the Everdark enhancement alongside Tricephalos, Fissure in the Fog, and Equilibrious Beast, it now appears that Everdark Gaping Jaw and Sentient Pest will continue to be active within the game, according to FromSoftware’s strategy of cyclically reintroducing previous Everdark bosses.
