In a recent update, Elden Ring Nightreign introduced the Everdark variant of the boss fight often considered the most tedious, known as Augur. Unfortunately, as many gamers anticipated, this enhanced version has extended the already lengthy, airborne battle into an even more prolonged and floatier one.
Essentially, Augur is a colossal drifting mist creature that occasionally lashes out at the player with magical and sleep spells. The Everdark Augur, however, is an enormous floating entity that showers the battlefield with sleep bombs and continuously traverses the immense boss arena. What sets it apart is that once you’ve dealt with its initial weaker phase, you receive a unique magic weapon capable of replenishing your spell points and firing projectiles at Everdark Augur, gradually depleting its substantial health bar.
To put it simply, Everdark Augur is primarily vulnerable to those unique projectiles. Characters who specialize in ranged combat, such as Ironeye and Recluse, find it challenging to hit the boss with their arrows or spells due to its elevated position and mobility. Additionally, other types of attacks may not inflict significant damage on Everdark Augur.
Essentially, whatever equipment you gather on your journey towards the final boss doesn’t matter much, as you’ll primarily be using projectile attacks regardless of your choice. Therefore, when preparing for an Everdark Augur run, it’s essential to focus on enhancing stats such as magic damage, weapon skill damage, healing abilities, stamina regeneration, and mana recovery, along with universal bonuses.
Everdark Augur isn’t particularly challenging or fierce, as one might expect from a boss in a FromSoftware game. In fact, its attacks can be easily dodged or countered. Moreover, the range on its special weapons exceeds that of an anti-tank rifle, which means you don’t really need to worry about positioning or being proactive. However, it seems that many fans of FromSoftware are finding this battle repetitive and dull, which isn’t typically what they look for in these games.
Reddit user CtrlAltDoom expresses a common sentiment about the Everdark Augur fight: ‘I adore it so deeply; I wish it lasted longer and each attack took him further away, covering an entire zip code distance.’
SynthLup expressed confusion over the unusual choice of making players use personalized magical weapons against a boss with strong magic resistance. (It seems odd.) Meanwhile, No-One-9424 added, “I find it amazing how Everdark Augur makes Base Augur seem enjoyable,” they remarked.
In contrast to your opinion, I find myself in agreement with a different perspective. Accompanied by a friend, we’ve been exploring Nightreign’s latest duo adventures. Last night, we faced and ultimately conquered Everdark Augur. While I concede that the music and visuals are commendable, I must argue that it falls short in comparison to other Everdark bosses. Admittedly, this may not be surprising given the lackluster nature of Augur as a baseline character.
The special weapons seem to address a problem that wasn’t necessary, but they do offer a unique building strategy for this particular boss battle. However, it’s disappointing that certain classes are disadvantaged in the encounter. While all characters have their challenging matchups, none are quite as lopsided as this one. Yet, I must admit that this fight does bring back memories of the Storm Ruler boss from Demon’s Souls, a game I still consider one of my favorites from FromSoftware.
Excitingly, there are several methods to simplify the challenge of Everdark Augur, even though they might not spark excitement. Your_Pal_Kailum provides a comprehensive guide that covers many strategies my friend and I used in our victorious adventure. Unfortunately, this ease makes this boss incredibly farmable, as it becomes challenging to lose once you’ve grasped the techniques. Here’s a brief list:
1. Use of specific item combinations.
2. Mastering the boss’s patterns and weaknesses.
3. Coordinating your actions with team members, if applicable.
4. Adapting strategies based on the boss’s phases or variations.
- Stay far away from your teammates (unless you need to revive them) to reduce AoE overlap
- Make an empty spot in your main hand weapons to instantly equip the special weapon when you acquire it
- Focus on transferable stat bonuses when drafting rewards and gear throughout the run
- Take any form of sleep resistance you can get
- If the lock-on will cooperate, focus on Augur’s energy orbs when they appear to stun the boss
- Use your weapon’s fully charged projectile attack when the boss is extremely far away, as it seems to have functionally infinite range
- Try to find a Sacred Seal with a healing spell on it, because you’ll have infinite mana, and therefore infinite healing, thanks to the custom weapon’s FP regeneration
