Elden Ring Nightreign: Tips you need for every expedition

Elden Ring: Nightreign offers a rich and immersive gaming experience, even for seasoned players of FromSoftware games. However, if you think it’ll follow the same gameplay mechanics as previous titles like Elden Ring and Dark Souls, you might be in for a surprise. Climbing walls is just one of the many unexpected changes; the rest may catch you off guard as well.

In this discussion, we’ll be highlighting key points to help ensure consistent victories when navigating Nightreign within the game Elden Ring, assuming you’re already familiar with the basics of Elden Ring: We’ll focus on new aspects that require your attention while playing Nightreign.

Day 1 tasks and Day 2 tasks

On your first day in Limveld, some areas might be overly challenging if your character’s level is low. If you spot a storm cloud hovering over a location or a dark mark on the map, it’s advisable to steer clear until you’ve properly prepared. Similarly, disregarding less difficult camps for tougher bosses on day one could be detrimental. All the essential information required to determine suitable locations each day is provided on your map, and we provide a detailed guide in our Nightreign Points of Interest (POI) guide.

Elemental loot

On your map screen, you’ll find icons signifying elements associated with certain ruins, castles, and other locations. These icons not only suggest the type of enemies that might employ specific elements, but also hint at the rewards you could acquire from defeating nearby bosses. This information is particularly helpful if you’re trying to build your character around a specific affliction or preparing for the Nightlord. If you need a comprehensive list of all Nightlords and their weaknesses, we have one available.

Make the most of Shifting Earth

After defeating a Nightlord, unusual occurrences on Earth transpire, and despite being able to stop them by going to sleep, it’s advisable not to. These instances offer remarkable prizes at their core, which can significantly facilitate conquering the Nightlords. However, venturing into the heart of these Shifting Earth occurrences should only be done on Day 2. If you do so, you’ll find yourself in an advantageous position to emerge victorious. Explore our comprehensive list detailing all Shifting Earth events and their rewards.

Upgrade your armaments and Flasks

Enhancing your equipment can boost your chances of victory. While you might not stumble upon a remarkable weapon that perfectly fits your style, you can elevate the appropriate weapon to level 2 by using Smithing Stone 2. You’ll often find these Smithing Stones by defeating larger enemies within mine tunnels. Be cautious, though, as the safe zone closes eventually, so don’t get trapped underground. Similarly, visiting each church will reward you with an additional Flask charge at the altar. This extra charge is incredibly useful during the Day 3 Nightlord battle.

Always carry six weapons

In the game Nightreign, it’s recommended to always have six weapons on hand. This is because there are no weight restrictions in this game. Each weapon provides a passive bonus, which remains active even when not being used. So, if a weapon doesn’t fit your character build but its effect suits your needs, you can keep it in one of the six slots to still enjoy the benefit.

Don’t worry about stats too much

Given that you’re already equipped with six weapons, why not make use of them instead of being strictly tied to one weapon type? While each character has their preferred weapons, they shouldn’t feel restricted by it. For instance, even though the Raider may have low FP, they can absolutely wield a magical staff for a powerful attack. Similarly, having a bow as your secondary weapon can come in handy in numerous situations, enabling you to solve puzzles and revive allies from afar. If you find yourself cornered as the Recluse, a swift melee weapon could help you escape when there’s not enough time to cast a spell. It’s essential to prioritize weapons that enhance your character’s stats, but remember they aren’t the only factor to consider.

Spectral Hawk fast travel

On your map, Spectral Hawk Trees are indicated, along with the routes they’ll guide you through the map. While descending, you have a fair degree of flexibility in choosing your landing spot, which means that as long as they’re flying towards the right destination, Spectral Hawks are undeniably the quickest method to traverse the map. They are particularly useful when the church you need to reach is located on the opposite side of the map by Day 2.

All about teamwork

In case you’re not an experienced FromSoftware gamer used to handling solo mode, it’s advisable to team up instead. If you have friends who can join you for a game, that’s ideal, but if not, ensure to communicate with your team by marking the map and staying close to the player who appears most skilled. Don’t forget to check out our tutorial on how to mark items in Nightreign for better communication.

Learn your character’s abilities

Relics inform builds

At Roundtable Hold, you can outfit each of your Nightfarers with Relics, a crucial aspect for enhancing your character’s power before embarking on an expedition. These Relics are the primary method to boost your character’s abilities and tailor them according to your preferred playstyle. You can select Relics that particularly enhance the skills and tactics you prefer to employ. Some Relics may even possess special abilities exclusive to specific characters. Scanning the bazaar for available Relics and optimizing your build will significantly improve your chances of success in challenging Nightlord expeditions.
