Nightreign with staffs or special items called seals. The instructions are tailored to each gaming platform.
In a refreshing twist, FromSoftware’s Elden Ring: Nightreign effectively condenses an entire RPG journey’s advancement into a roguelike format without sacrificing its core identity. While the combat in Nightreign may appear familiar to Elden Ring at first glance, there are notable variations. One significant shift concerns the magic system, which now operates differently from the memorization-based system found in Elden Ring.
Currently, you have the ability to perform spells using either a holy emblem or a staff. Both the emblems and staffs come with two unique spells that you can activate by pressing distinct button combinations.
How To Cast Spells in Elden Ring Nightreign
In Elden Ring Nightreign, to employ spells, select a staff or sacred seal with a magic-focused class such as Recluse or Revenant, and then use them. The Light Attack key will initiate the initial spell on the staff or seal, while the Heavy Attack key will engage the second spell. If you’re using the staff or seal with one hand, only the first spell can be activated with its corresponding button.
In case you’re holding your staff or seal in your right hand, press the Light Attack key to trigger the first spell. If it’s in your left hand, opt for the Heavy Attack key instead. To deploy the second spell, grasp the staff firmly with both hands and then hit with the Heavy Attack key. Here are the default keys for each platform:
* PC: Q (Light), E (Heavy)
* Xbox One: X (Light), A (Heavy)
* PlayStation 4: Square (Light), Triangle (Heavy)
- Xbox
- Light Attack button: LB or RB
- Heavy Attack button: LT or RT
- PlayStation
- Light Attack button: L1 or R1
- Heavy Attack button: L2 or R2
- PC
- Light Attack button: LMB or RMB
- Heavy Attack button: Q or Ctrl + LMB
Dual Wielding Staffs in Elden Ring Nightreign
If you hold a staff in each hand, pressing the Light Attack button will cast the first spell of the right-handed staff, while the Heavy Attack button will invoke the first spell of the left-handed staff. To transform into two-handed mode with your right-handed staff, press and hold ‘Y’ (or ‘E’ on PC) and then click the right mouse button (RB on an Xbox controller). Press the same combo again to return to dual-wielding.
Button press | Dual-wielding staffs | Two-handing staff |
---|---|---|
Light Attack button | First spell of the right-hand staff | First spell |
Heavy Attack button | First spell of the left-hand staff | Second spell |
Swiftly alternating between dual-wielding and two-handling staffs grants you immediate access to three distinct spell types. Additionally, during combat, you can swap out staffs and sacred seals stored in your inventory for the use of various other spells. Always remember to maintain a safe distance from adversaries when exchanging equipment.
