In each journey within Elden Ring: Nightreign, the Nightlords serve as formidable Day 3 adversaries to confront. Each of these bosses presents a significant test, often requiring the skills of not one, but three well-equipped combatants to overcome.
Hey there, fellow gamer! In this breakdown, I’ll be diving into the vulnerabilities and tactics you should keep in mind for every Nightlord, along with tips on how to access all Nightlord expeditions. So, let’s get started – here’s everything you need to know about the Nightlords!
How to unlock all Expeditions – ER Nightreign
As a gamer, I’ll embark on my initial journey with the Tricephalos Expedition. Upon finishing this one, I’ll gain access to all the remaining expeditions except for the Night Aspect.
After successfully finishing four distinct journeys, you’ll be able to embark on the Night Aspect expedition.
Tricephalos: Gladius, Beast of Night – ER Nightreign
- Weakness: Holy
In Nightreign, Gladius will be your initial encounter as a Nightlord; overcoming this battle is crucial before progressing to any other. Gladius’ attacks are easily predicted, but the tricky part comes when they divide into three. If a single warrior gets surrounded by these attacks, it might seem like an insurmountable challenge to come out unscathed. However, focusing on inflicting Holy damage will make Gladius quickly lose interest in the fight.
After successfully defeating Gladius, you’ll be granted access to additional adventures, and will have the opportunity to play as both Duchess and Revenant.
Gaping Jaw: Adel, Baron of Night – ER Nightreign
- Weakness: Poison
This shaggy wyvern-like beast, famously known for its gigantic jawed head, is the focus of our current expedition. Its strategy involves trying to devour you, causing significant harm, which should be your primary concern during an encounter. The creature tends to move around a lot and can prove tricky to hit if you’re using a slower melee fighter. However, things intensify in the second phase of combat, as Adel summons lightning from beneath its feet, manifesting as purple geysers. To ensure victory, keep your movements agile to dodge attacks, and make sure the monster is continuously dealing poison damage. With this approach, you should emerge victorious with relative ease.
Sentient Pest: Gnoster, Wisdom of Night – ER Nightreign
- Weakness: Fire
As a gamer, I’ve come to realize that Gnoster could be the Nightlord I’ll have a hard time besting in Nightreign. It’s reminiscent of the Moonlight Butterfly from Dark Souls, but it brings along a colossal bug companion. This partnership significantly ups the ante, making the battle more challenging. You’ll find yourself strategically dividing your team between the butterfly and the insect. The insect dished out high damage, while the butterfly is tricky to hit. Long-range players should zero in on the butterfly, leaving melee units to tackle the insect.
In this battle, fire is beneficial and primarily used to knock down the butterfly forcefully for powerful melee attacks. Once they’ve both lost around half their total health, they’ll coordinate their moves, making the fight more challenging. Fortunately, you can employ a similar strategy, but be mindful of new attack patterns.
Augur: Maris, Fathom of Night – ER Nightreign
- Weakness: Lightning
This boss has an unexpected tendency to catch you off guard, but generally, it’s not too difficult to handle. The boss frequently tries to lull you to sleep, so having some resistance ready beforehand can help make the encounter less aggravating. Maris may summon tentacles from the ground periodically, which can be defeated if you attack them, but staying outside of their surprisingly extended reach ensures they won’t pose a threat to you.
In this battle, ranged units are likely to have a clear advantage since Maris seldom remains stationary or stays on the ground for extended periods. As the fight unfolds, Maris will employ waves of sleep and charges to keep you guessing, but if you maintain mobility or stay at a distance, you’ll generally be secure. Teams that are equipped with Lightning often manage to defeat this Nightlord in the initial attack.
Equilibrious Beast: Libra, Creature of Night – ER Nightreign
- Weakness: Madness
Warning: Declining the offer is advisable. Entering into an agreement prior to the conflict could provide a significant advantage, but it would also make encountering Libra in battle much riskier. Instead, I suggest launching an immediate attack to avoid any confusion among your teammates. Additionally, keep in mind that during the fight, there’s an opportunity to shatter seals to avert a massive assault. However, be aware that if you choose to break these seals, Libra will retaliate with even more projectiles.
In combat, Libra may prove formidable, yet it also drops golden items on the battlefield, which heal a small portion of your Health Points (HP) and Focus Points (FP) when picked up. Moreover, these golden items help clear any accumulated Madness, a dangerous state that every Elden Ring player recognizes. Importantly, Libra is susceptible to Madness as well, so using Madness-based strategies can significantly weaken it swiftly and effortlessly.
Darkdrift Knight: Fulghor, Champion of Nightglow
- Weakness: Lightning
This formidable one-armed centaur, undeniably intimidating, plunges into battle without pause, constantly moving about. If you’re a distant fighter, Fulghor will swiftly charge towards you before you can even contemplate your next move. Once he’s lost half of his health, he regenerates his left arm, making him an even more formidable adversary, reminiscent of Dark Souls’ Manus. He possesses a vulnerability to Lightning attacks, which can significantly hinder and harm him, suggesting that using weapons with a Lightning edge will greatly simplify the struggle against him.
Fissure in the Fog: Caligo, Miasma of Night – ER Nightreign
- Weakness: Fire
Caligo, one of the Nightlords, is both exhilarating and infuriating to face off against. What makes him cool is that he’s a colossal dragon – a sight to behold indeed! However, his size and characteristics as a dragon make him frustrating too. In games from FromSoftware, dragons are known for moving around while unleashing extensive, long-range attacks. If you’re playing with a melee build, landing consistent blows can be quite challenging.
Keep an eye out for instances when fog envelops and Caligo blends with the mist. As clouds move towards his position, follow them while hiding behind some projecting stones for safety. However, beware that another foggy moment will cause the sky around Caligo to rupture and fragment, a challenging situation to navigate, despite being forewarned. Generally speaking, Caligo is like most dragons, but defeating him becomes quicker if you equip Fire-based weapons.
Night Aspect: Heolstor the Nightlord – ER Nightreign
- Weakness: Holy
In Nightreign, Heolstor the Nightlord stands out as the sole major boss with two life bars, making the second phase of the battle notably more dangerous compared to the first. To be frank, the initial phase is insignificant. As the ultimate challenge in the game, you’ll face him while enduring continuous assaults from multiple directions, employing various affinities.
In this scenario, it turns into a prolonged conflict where endurance matters most, as you must mainly concentrate on survival while inflicting continuous damage. Heolstor is vulnerable to Holy damage, and that’s essentially his only weakness when it comes to stunning him; however, his health decreases at a snail’s pace, all the while darting swiftly across the battlefield. A sound approach would be to field two long-range damage dealers and one tank to draw aggro, but even ranged combatants should stay vigilant against charges and ground attacks.
