It’s amazing to think that Elden Ring was released way back in 2022. Considering how popular it remains – and with a Switch 2 version still planned – it feels like it just came out.
So, what about Elden Ring 2? From what people are saying online, especially on Reddit, it seems like opinions are pretty divided – some are excited, while others aren’t so sure.
Is Elden Ring 2 Coming?
It Feels Inevitable, But We Can Wait
Many fans are unsure if they even want an Elden Ring 2. While some are satisfied with where the story ended and would prefer FromSoftware create something entirely new, others believe the original Elden Ring already explored the formula to its fullest potential, making a sequel feel unnecessary.
As a huge Dark Souls fan, I know how amazing the sequels can be. I honestly think Dark Souls 3 is one of FromSoftware’s best games ever! It almost feels like Bandai Namco really pushed for it, but thankfully Hidetaka Miyazaki was still heavily involved. And it totally paid off – the game was a massive critical and commercial success, which was awesome to see.
Many creators agree that passion and a good story are more important than profits. One user explained they’d prefer to see entirely new games instead of sequels that feel forced just for the sake of continuing a beloved series when there’s no compelling story left to tell.

It Made Too Much Money To Drop

Successful things tend to repeat themselves, and that’s especially true in entertainment. So, it’s not surprising that From Software, like many developers, often releases sequels to its popular games.
Ultimately, I’d like to see FromSoftware continue to create fresh and original games, as that’s where their strength lies. While a direct sequel to Elden Ring might be a long way off, we could definitely see them build on the established style they’ve refined since the original King’s Field, through games like Demon’s Souls, and beyond.
You know, it’s honestly impossible to guess what FromSoftware and Miyazaki will do next! One fan put it perfectly: Miyazaki is so unpredictable when it comes to sequels. Demon’s Souls was just a one-off, then Dark Souls started as a spiritual successor and turned into a whole trilogy. Bloodborne and Sekiro were amazing, but still just single games. And now Elden Ring… we’re all wondering what’s next! Everyone assumes if a game does well, they’ll make a sequel, but Miyazaki just doesn’t think like that. Sometimes he feels like he’s said everything he wants to with a world and just moves on, no matter how popular it is.
Honestly, as soon as another Elden Ring comes out, I’m playing it immediately! But it got me thinking… what could FromSoftware possibly create that would even top Elden Ring? That’s the exciting part!
