Dylan O’Brien Reveals His Concerns Were Not Considered The Day He Met Near-Fatal Accident On Maze Runner’s Set

As a follower who has been in the industry for 15 years like Dylan O’Brien, I can relate to his experiences and the hardships he faced during the filming of Maze Runner: The Death Cure. His near-fatal accident on set was indeed a turning point that taught him the importance of self-advocacy and personal safety.

Dylan O’Brien recently opened up about a near-fatal accident during the filming of “Maze Runner: The Death Cure” in 2016. In an interview with Men’s Health, he described this event as a life-changing moment and expressed that the safety concerns of those around him seemed insignificant at that time.

With 15 years of experience in the industry under his belt, he recognizes the importance of safeguarding himself when working on a film set. Following an accident on set, O’Brien disclosed that he did not receive standard or favorable treatment afterwards.

In a similar vein, he discovered the importance of standing up for himself and understanding the outcomes of self-nurturing and personal protection, stemming from such an experience. He expressed to the magazine, “It’s shown me that in these environments, you must trust yourself above all else, and that’s the greatest support you can count on.

In his own words, O’Brien expressed trust in both his personal integrity and his professional competence, which made his concerns justifiable and it was logical for him to voice them out. The memory of how he felt on the day of the incident, where he was trying to protect himself, is still vivid in his mind.

2016 saw an incident during a stunt filming session involving a vehicle. He got hit, causing him to be flung away. The impact resulted in a concussion and facial fractures, leading to a halt in production. Filming resumed a year later, and the movie was finally released in January 2018, following a two-year delay.

He spoke about the difficulty of young actors trying to voice their concerns, as they are often made to follow rules, and any attempts to argue with such a system are usually termed as ‘difficult.’

Regarding the way I was handled on set, he expressed, “Please don’t let them make you believe that expressing your concerns is being difficult. At 24, I was a young man voicing my apprehensions about our methods, and those concerns were ignored, disregarded.

Dylan O’Brien’s most recent movie Saturday Night premiered on September 27th.
