Dwayne Johnson announced that the next Jumanji movie will be the final installment in the series.
Johnson described the movie as “a huge, enjoyable, and touching experience,” and expressed that it felt like a fitting and satisfying conclusion to the Jumanji series with their last film.
In December 2019, Dwayne Johnson announced that the upcoming film would feature Jurgen the Brutal, the villain from The Next Level.
The movie will explain that Jurgen was a character controlled by a player within the game, and it will reveal who that player is. Director Jake Kasdan shared in March 2020 that work on a sequel had begun, and that the original actors would return.
The project was slowed down by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in October 2022, producer Hiram Garcia announced that Kasdan would move on to the next Jumanji movie once he finished working on Red One (scheduled for release in 2024). Then, in March 2023, Kevin Hart suggested that this film might be the last one in the Jumanji series.
As a huge Jumanji fan, I was thrilled to hear the new movie is officially coming out in October 2024! They’ve already started teasing it with a poster at CinemaCon, which was awesome. And get this – Jonathan Kasdan mentioned he’s hoping to get Kirsten Dunst and Bonnie Hunt back from the original 1995 film, which would be incredible!
Brittany O’Grady and Burn Gorman were added to the cast in October, and filming was scheduled to begin the next month.
Jumanji fans have exciting news! The official Jumanji Twitter account announced that production on the next movie has begun with the hashtag #JumanjiMovie. They shared a photo of the stars – Jack Black, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Karen Gillan – together at an event in Los Angeles. Dwayne Johnson also confirmed on Instagram that filming will start soon in Los Angeles.
New level unlocked. #JumanjiMovie is officially in production.

Eagle-eyed fans will spot a nod to the original 1995 Jumanji in the new movie. Dwayne Johnson revealed that his character, Dr. Smolder Bravestone, wears a dice on a necklace – a subtle Easter egg referencing the first film.
These are the actual dice used in the original 1995 film, Jumanji, and a tribute to the late, great Robin Williams. This suggests the new movie will feature the original board game, linking it back to the first story.
