Dwayne Johnson Confirms ‘Jumanji 3’ Has Started Filming, Says It’s the Final Movie

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced that filming for Jumanji 3 has begun in Los Angeles. He also stated this will be the last movie in the Jumanji series.

Production Begins in Los Angeles

Johnson recently shared with The Hollywood Reporter that filming for the next movie will start in about three weeks, with Jake Kasdan directing again. He playfully mentioned Kevin Hart not being around, but quickly confirmed that the entire cast will be back together.

Just a few days ago, Dwayne Johnson announced that filming has officially begun. He shared on Instagram that the cast had their first read-through of the script in Los Angeles, where the movie will also be filmed. This is the first time a modern Jumanji film hasn’t been shot in Hawaii or Atlanta.

Johnson Calls It the Final Chapter

Johnson called the movie a huge and emotional adventure, and believes it’s a fitting conclusion to the popular series.

I was so excited to hear that the new movie will be the last one in the series! The director also let slip a really cool detail – apparently, there’s a little homage to the very first Jumanji from 1995, the one with Robin Williams. Apparently, you’ll even see a prop from that original film – the dice from the board game – as part of my character’s outfit. It’s a nice touch for long-time fans like me!

Returning Cast and Director

Karen Gillan has confirmed she’s reprising her role as Ruby Roundhouse. She shared pictures and a video from a recent cast table read, showing her reunited with Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black.

Jake Kasdan is back as director and co-writer, teaming up with Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg – the same creative team who made the last two movies.

Release Date and Franchise Legacy

The third Jumanji movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 11, 2026, by Sony Pictures. It’s a sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), which have collectively earned almost $2 billion around the world.

Johnson suggested the new installment will both conclude the series and honor the original Jumanji film starring Robin Williams, which launched the franchise almost three decades ago.
