As a lifelong sci-fi enthusiast who has traversed the vast expanse of galaxies and dimensions through countless novels, films, and series, I must say that Dune: Prophecy is shaping up to be an extraordinary addition to the Space Opera genre. With its intricate plotlines, rich characters, and captivating visuals, it’s reminiscent of a well-aged wine, maturing with each episode.
The Dune film franchise brought us the new age of Space Opera movies. Meanwhile, Dune: Prophecy is a series that will talk about a lot of things taking place centuries before the current timeline, as seen in the Dennis Villeneuve entries.
In this conversation, we’re focusing on a HBO Max show that centers around two siblings, Valya and Tula Harkonnen, who band together to establish the Bene Gesserit order, challenging the powerful political system that dominates the series.
Prophecy.
For those who may not know, Bene Gesserit is a secretive and exceptionally potent organization that operates behind the scenes.
In Episode 1, Valya mentions that it was an Atreides who ultimately triumphed in the prolonged, exhausting conflict against intelligent machines – a battle known as the Butlerian Jihad.
At this point, she clarifies that her great-grandfather abandoned the war, and after the Great War concluded, marking the end of advanced technological machinery, her lineage was labeled as cowards.
They were even “banished to a desolate world.”
These occurrences prompted Valya to swear vengeance, planning to establish a unique female-only clan as her means of retaliation.
With their initial encounter, Valya is now assuming the role of the Second Mother Superior within the Sisterhood, as she stands before the esteemed figure of Raquella Berto-Anirul.
In due time, when the First Mother lies nearing her final breath, she entrusts Valya with a mission: To safeguard and bolster The Sisterhood against “a divine retribution orchestrated by a despot, an unfathomable evil force.
30 years on, I find myself at the helm of the Sisterhood, a role that dates back 116 years post the Great Machine Wars and an astounding 10,148 years prior to the birth of Paul Atreides – a fascinating journey through time indeed!
The discussion among The Sisterhood, Valya, and Lord Constantine – who shares a bloodline with Princess Ynez as her half-brother – revolves around her impending arrival.
Yet, there appears to be an undercurrent of emotional friction or perhaps romantic undertones between Ynez and Keiran, who serves as the Imperial House’s master swordsman.
In our depiction, we also catch a glimpse of the truth-teller Kasha discussing her prophetic vision. In this vision, she foresees Ynez being swallowed by a sandworm on her way to Tula and Valya, leading her sisters to contemplate pairing Ynez with someone other than her intended spouse.
The series even introduced us to Javvico Corrino, the current Emperor, having a discussion with Desmond Hart about the issues in Arrakis.
Get ready as we delve into the upcoming episode filled with even more captivating scenes focusing on Valya, Tula, Javvico, and Desmond, plus some additional characters who will make their entrance shortly.
Episode 2: Two Sides will be released on November 24, 2024.
In the meantime, here’s our upcoming schedule: Episode 3, “Sisterhood Above All,” will be broadcast on December 1. Following this, we have an unnamed Episode 4 set for December 8, Episode 5 scheduled for December 15, and finally, the series finale, Episode 6, airing on December 22. Enjoy!
