The new trailer begins with Paul and Chani talking about names for their future child, which appears to be a scene from a past moment during the events of Dune: Part Two. At the end of that film, Chani leaves Paul after he marries Princess Irulan for political reasons. The trailer leaves unanswered what happened to their child, who would now be a teenager. We do learn, however, that Chani wants to name a son Leto, after Paul’s father, hoping the boy will inherit his grandfather’s wisdom.
The film then shows exciting scenes of Paul fighting, intercut with a conversation between him and his mother, Lady Jessica. He wonders how his father maintained power, and she reveals that Leto never initiated any wars – a particularly stinging revelation.
The most intriguing parts of this preview are the appearances of two characters who weren’t in the first movie. First, Robert Pattinson joins the cast as Scytale, a shapeshifter known as a Face Dancer who is a key figure opposing the ruler, Muad’Dib. The other surprising face is Jason Momoa, who played Duncan Idaho. Didn’t he die in the first Dune? Yes, he did, and for those who haven’t read Dune Messiah, I won’t reveal how he’s back.

Villeneuve explained that the upcoming Dune: Part Three will be a departure from the first two films. While the first was an adventure and the second a war movie, he envisions the third as a tense, atmospheric thriller. The film will focus on the challenges Paul faces in maintaining his power—something that proves surprisingly difficult even with the ability to foresee the future. He also noted that, though Hans Zimmer is returning to compose the music, the score will have a distinctly different sound.
Even in this short preview, a sense of danger is clear. The final shot of Chani and Paul facing off on the battlefield is a stark contrast to the warm, intimate scene at the start, hinting at a dramatic turn of events.

We’re excited for the next Dune movie, Dune: Part Three, but it won’t be released until December 18, 2026.
