As a die-hard fan of Hans Zimmer and a connoisseur of cinematic scores, I must say that the prospect of him being sidelined for the next Oscars due to some technicality with pre-existing music is nothing short of heartbreaking. I’ve been following his career since the early ’80s, witnessing his transformative work in films like The Lion King and Inception, and seeing him potentially miss out on an Oscar for Dune: Part Two feels like a cosmic injustice.
Without a shadow of a doubt, Hans Zimmer is undeniably one of the greatest music directors in contemporary times. Yet, it’s crucial to remember that the Academy Awards have their own set of rules. As per recent updates, the renowned composer behind the Dunkirk film may not qualify for nomination at the upcoming Oscars.
Despite high expectations, including those held by director Denis Villeneuve, that Hans Zimmer will win an Oscar for his work on the sequel to the 2021 movie, there are lingering doubts that may prevent him from doing so.
According to reports, the rule at the academy allows for only 20% of pre-existing music in a film. However, it’s rumored that the score for Dune: Part Two will surpass this limit.
For those unaware, the composer behind the music for the Daniel Craig film No Time to Die has previously received an Academy Award for his exceptional work on Dune: Part One.
The Dune film series is based on the novel published back in the 60s, by Frank Herbert.
In the first part of Dune, Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, and Javier Bardem are joined by Jason Momoa, Zendaya, Stellan Skarsgard, and Josh Brolin. The second installment also boasts a large ensemble cast.
In the recent sequel, Dune: Part Two, I had the pleasure of witnessing the exceptional performances by Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, and Lea Seydoux, alongside Christopher Walken and Tim Blake Nelson. Notably, for this installment, Ferguson, Chalamet, Zendaya, Bardem, and other esteemed actors graciously returned to reprise their roles once more.
As a seasoned lifestyle connoisseur, I’m thrilled to share that Warner Bros. has humbly presented the enchanting symphony of Dune: Part Two to the prestigious Academy, with high hopes that the masterful Hans Zimmer will grace the nominations for his exceptional contributions to the film’s soundtrack.
According to the director of both versions of Dune, Denis Villeneuve, Hans Zimmer has created a brand-new tune for the upcoming sequel. In fact, the director himself expressed hope that Zimmer might be taken into account when it comes to Oscar nominations.
According to reports, the process for Academy Award voting will commence on December 9, 2024. On December 17, the fifteen finalist scores will then be disclosed.
Later the final list of five scores will be nominated for the 2025 Academy Awards.
The Dune film series is the new age of Space Opera movies. It talks about a desert planet Arrakis, and its indigenous people, Fremen who are exploited by rich families for a valuable mineral called Spice.
