Dumbledore Spotted on Cornish Beach as ‘Harry Potter’ TV Series Continues Production

Production on the new Harry Potter TV show is underway, and filming recently took place on the beaches of Cornwall.

John Lithgow, the new Professor Dumbledore, was recently spotted on set wearing the character’s full costume – including a long white beard – and practicing his lines while filming on a windy beach.

John Lithgow, a familiar face from shows like The Crown, Dexter, and the Shrek movies, is taking on the role of the headmaster, a part previously known for being played by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon.

According to reports, crews were filming at Cadgwith on the Lizard between October 6 and 10.

According to reports, the road between Prazegooth Lane and Campion Lane will be shut down for a film shoot. Because the road is close to the beach, it’s likely the filming will take place there.

The production team has closed off the areas surrounding Kynance Cove, including the cafe and parking lot, for filming.

HBO’s upcoming series features Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The show is a Warner Bros. Television, Brontë Film & TV, and Heyday Films production.

Beyond the main cast, the series boasts some fantastic supporting performances from John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, and Nick Frost – seriously, keep an eye out for them! Filming kicked off on July 14th, 2025, originally under the code name ‘Dark Train,’ and it’s happening right where the magic of the original Harry Potter films came to life – at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire. It’s great to see them returning to such an iconic location.

To support the young cast, a temporary school was set up at Leavesden that could hold up to 600 students. Filming wasn’t limited to the studio, though; the crew shot scenes at various locations around the UK, including Île de Sein in France, London Zoo, Borough High Street, King’s Cross station, Hoddesdon, and Wardown Park in Luton.

People who follow the British royal family were happy to see Prince William, Princess Catherine, and their children visit the Hogsmeade Station set, which was built in Windsor Great Park.

While filming on the Cornish coast, actor Liam Lithgow was spotted glancing at cue cards as he played Dumbledore, amusing onlookers from the cliffs. This beach scene is part of the first season, which is scheduled to wrap up around mid-2026, with production for the second season starting soon after.

The new series aims to offer a unique interpretation of J.K. Rowling’s popular books. According to Redanian Intelligence, filming at Kynance Cove—a distinctive and beautiful location—will provide a striking setting.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the new series, hoping its stunning visuals and dramatic coastal setting will successfully bring the wonder of Hogwarts to life on television.

John Lithgow is playing Dumbledore for the first time, and fans are excited to see his interpretation of the beloved and mysterious character. Because Lithgow is skilled in both dramatic and comedic roles, he might bring a fresh perspective to the part. Plus, filming in the UK helps create a truly authentic setting for the world J.K. Rowling imagined.

The new Harry Potter series on HBO is shaping up to be a large-scale production, filming in locations from Cornwall to Leavesden and even further afield. Excitement is building as fans share early photos from the set and speculate about how the actors and settings will affect the overall feel of the show.
